Salem sells KLTY, six other CCM stations to EMF

Marcus is a great media entrepreneur who has been very successful in radio and tv including launching the original KLTY on 94.1. He obviously sees an opportunity created in the wake of KLTY's shutdown.

That said, I find myself to being generally skeptical about local focused online-only radio stations, specifically here when they are competing with entrenched full-market signals that have a perceived "no commercials" advantage.
The original KLTY was on 94.9 from 1985-1986. The owners sold it and it was flipped to CHR KHYI "Y95."

The Rodriguez family bought the KLTY music library as well as the KLTY promotional materials (jingle cartridges, etc.) after the original KLTY was sold in 1986. They did launch contemporary Christian on 94.1 the following year, but the KLTY calls had been long been picked up by 106.5 in the Kansas City market for its “K-Lite” format. So, the new contemporary Christian format on 94.1 launched with the KOJO calls. The KLTY calls got reclaimed and put on 94.1 in 1989. So, 94.1 was, to borrow a phrase, the 2nd coming of KLTY.

Also of note, 101.7-HD2 (previously K-Love) is now running a continuous sweeper redirecting listeners to 94.9 and announcing the upcoming launch of Musica De Adoracion on the frequency (a Spanish language sister to Air1). The sweeper also lists frequencies for K-Love in Waco, Austin, SA, and Houston. K-Love 2000's is still running on the HD-3.

They don’t sound to bad top of the line imaging and nice processing but they need an app or at least put it on I heart radio because listening through a web browser in 2025 isn’t gonna cut it good luck to them

I also heard this loop running non-stop for quite a few days. However, as of now 101.7 HD2 is back to music right now and is airing the K-Love 90’s feed.

In other news, the K-Love logo finally loaded for me on 94.9! 😂

K-Love's application to change 94.9 to non-commercial status is still pending at the FCC. I assume once approved, 94.9 will get a new HD2/HD3 line up since presumably a non-comm can't be carrying commercial programming like a KSKY 660 simulcast as 94.9HD2 is now.

Looks like all the stations sold are finalized. But the applications to go non commercial are still pending. Is klty still airing Salem stations on hd2 and hd3 now that the sale is finalized . Because they can’t air Salem on hd 2 and 3 once it officially goes non com

Remember that FCC approval of the deal does not mean the sale has closed yet.

When the 97.1 in Houston was sold to EMF a couple of years ago, the sale was approved on October 13 but the closing (and format flip) didn’t occur until October 31.

That would be fifteen days from now if I'm reading the contract correctly (the closing date ;)).

Also, of note once the closing takes place ALL the equipment will be upgraded at the Cedar Hill site afterwards and the subchannels will be changed.

There apparently is a standard equipment package installed at all the K-Love Inc. transmitter sites. Is KLTY also getting a new transmitter?

That's good to know. I'll keep an eye out.

That wasn’t discussed today. I can tell you that the Salem/KLTY engineers replaced it recently within the last three years.

I do hope EMF brings Gateway Creative’s Boost Radio to an HD subchannel. I think it would work if they did the same thing as Chicago:

94.9
HD1: K-Love
HD2: Air1
HD3: Boost
HD4: Radio Nueva Vida

For 101.7, the HD2 is currently K-Love. Chicagoland’s Air1 has K-Love 90’s on the HD2. I imagine the original K-Love will stay in place at least for a bit on 101.7 HD2.
I have a lot of things to say, big fan of HD subchannels: HD1, HD2, HD3, and HD4. On January 23, and February 1st, I did email K Love about considering these subchannels heard in Chicago IL WCKL, as I live in Dallas Fort Worth suburbs cities be heard in Dallas as well back in January 23, about Boost FM (Boost Radio in St. Louis, MO) wanted to be heard in Dallas because of Dallas Fort Worth fastest growing cities, I emailed boost FM operation manager Mike Couchman and acknowledged this and will accept if EMF invites them to KLTY HD3. HD4 being Radio Nueva Vida being heard across HD subchannels being targeted Hispanic population across the US alone. I do need to describe the reasons why for this because: KLTY HD2 is Air1 being weaker in Southern Dallas and Fort Worth (Mansfield, Cleburne, to name these) and nearby suburbs where Dallas antenna farms are located in Cedar Hill (KLTY being one) and especially Downtown Dallas being weakened due to KYDA weak Downtown Dallas to adjacent frequency 101.5 K268CL in East Dallas. Since 2013 KYDA Air1 took over and had problems for 12 years that is the problem being southern of Dallas and Fort Worth, it’s bad if you can’t get the signal being weak and annoyed with static. HD3 Boost FM (branded Boost Radio) partnership in 2021 heard across cities being Pittsburgh, PA, Lafayette, NC, Phoenix, AZ, Memphis, TN, Austin, TX (coming soon) to name these examples. And lastly, HD4 Radio Nueva Vida in 2010 partnership but EMF is now acquiring it. It wants to reach Hispanic population where a lot of Mexican people live in Dallas Fort Worth, one for instant is heard in Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso. One I know is WAWY 103.9 in Northwest suburb Chicago being Dundee, IL has optional for HD2 K LOVE 90s and HD3 K LOVE 2000s who enjoy content there. in A lot of households including vehicles have equip HD radio to enjoy exclusively content that isn’t heard anywhere else. This is the opportunity for EMF in DFW that will reach more listeners and money that has again HD radio in homes, vehicles, and portable HD radio including mine being HDR-14 and HDR-16. Air1 is optional on KYDA is it is stronger in northern metroplex considered the fact people needed K-LOVE classics back then and separate to 90s and 2000s individually, wanting to hear K-LOVE 90s and K-LOVE 2000s can get these signal locations to hear 90s and 2000s for optional demanded back then. It’s a very popular format for those needing history songs that isn’t common nowadays. I really hope the signal engineers will consider the request I had so we will all enjoy that is heard in the DFW metroplex anywhere else in other major cities that I mentioned before.
