Salem sells WHKZ/Warren

OMW has the lowdown, but here's the long and short of it:

Salem Communications is selling preaching/teaching WHKZ/1440 to Pentecostal Temple Development Corporation for $550,000. So, no more Y-town/Warren simulcast of Cleveland's WHKW/1220.

That said, is there any chance of this new owner doing something local with 1440, or is that just another a pipe dream of mine?

the new owner, Rev. Loren Mann......a long time respected news reporter/anchor at CH 11 in P burgh, bought the station...

he also bought an AM from Salem in Pittsburgh...( i think it was the old 1080/WEEP frequency)......yes dating myself.......

whatever he decides to do, i would guess it would be well done......

this is a real minstry for the Rev. Mann, whom i hear is a good guy.....

maybe he will restore the heritage calls of wrro, the arrow. david9396 formerly david5258

And the first set of calls were WRRN, when it became WHHH in 1948...

In any event, this will end the least-necessary simulcast of a Cleveland station that I can ever remember. And it lasted for well over SEVEN YEARS... and WHKW is a 50,000 watt station that, last I checked, does cover the Youngstown area, no?

To be precise, it was WGBN/1150-New Kensington that the Rev. Mann purchased in 1992 from Salem...
