Salem to sell their Louisville cluster

After taking over operations of Salem Media’s Louisville cluster via LMA at the start of 2017, Word Broadcasting Network has exercised its option to purchase the stations for $4 million.

Word will acquire Conservative Talk “970 The Answer” WGTK Louisville with a CP for 93.5 W228EO Louisville, Christian Preaching 94.7 WFIA-FM New Albany IN and 900 WFIA/107.3 W297BV Louisville which simulcasts Word’s Christian AC 88.5 WJIE-FM Okolona KY. Those stations will join Word’s holdings that also includes two television stations in Louisville.

Word Broadcasting is named to get the Salem outlets in Louisville.

I remember when i was a kid wavg 970 playin mike and the mechanic taken in. Back when AM still played music.

As the release noted, Word has been operating the cluster for about three years now. I'd be surprised if there are any changes. Under some LMA's, the owner can dictate programming and is responsible for certain contracts, but Word and Salem have pretty similar missions. So, if there are any changes, they’ll be very minor.

WAVG 970 was a great oldies station around 1990 when Mark Stahr was programming the station.

Salem announced today as part of its earnings release that Word Broadcasting was unable to fund the sale by March 31 in order to redeem a $250,000 purchase credit. To quote the release: "It is uncertain when or if the transaction will close."
