From All Access Sally Jessy Raphael will fill in for Arlene Violet on WHJJ Wednesday through Friday of this week. She'll be in the HJJ studios Wednesday but do the show from her NY home Thursday & Friday. There's a blurb in the Projo today too. Apparently she's getting ready to return to syndicated radio.

You're kidding right? WHJJ can't be serious!
Why not put Tony Farr in Helen's spot and slide Helen over to Arlene's spot?
Or is the Empress of RI feeling very threatened by the new local voices on that station and has insisted a syndicated fill-in?

If this is true, it sounds pretty cool. I never heard SJR on talk radio(too young at the time). I'd like to hear an aircheck if this is true.

You have got to be kidding.? I guss since Hollywood Squares was cancelled doing a radio show in Providence would be better than nothing. :-\

Hey Sally was one of the original talk show hosts on the syndicated program "Talk Net" which aired overnights on WHJJ during the 80's. So this is more like a homecoming. Sally used to be heard every night on WHJJ. I always liked her on the Radio.

Ok , after hearing Dan and Laffey go at it, ( what a show!) I listened to Sally.
She sounds lost, what a mistake. Why did Arlene take off 2 days before end of book!
Why didn't they put Tony Farr in?
What about 'back to local'
Who is making these moves at whjj?

Are you kidding? I've been listening to Sally all afternoon. What a welcome change. She definitely does not sound lost. She sounds very layed back and relaxed. She's not even taking many calls.... and she hasn't been lost for conversation once. She's so good that she barely needs callers! It's just her and her husband there having a good time. Sally's daughter was on the phone for a while too. The best part of the show is that Sally hasn't even mentioned POLITICS once. It's been a totally stress free broadcast. I would choose to listen to this any day rather than the Dan and Arlene crapfest.

PS..... Sally "IS" Local. She's only doing these shows for WHJJ. They've been talking about Rhode Island for a good part of the afternoon. Her husband wants to know about the good stores in Rhode Island because he loves to shop and Sally's daughter wants them to bring back food from Federal Hill.

Wow am I sorry I missed a whole show of Sally and her hubby talking Rhode Island.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...................
Have no idea what possessed WHJJ to put this on.
Who cares about chit chat with a has been like Sally Jesse Raphael?
Today's topic was stores and Federal Hill?
What will tomorrow bring?? Riveting chat about good Rhode Island beaches?
Why not put elevator music on for 3 hours?
Same difference.

Hi Skynet 74,
Are you pulling our internet legs???
It sounded like The Providence Senior Center. David Bernsten was in the HJJ studios
directing the whole thing.
I know you're involed in radio. Are you personal friends with Sally R. ?
I think you're having fun with us!
Cheers,
Chatty. ;)

Re: Sally is not bad at all......

I was listenining during the 3 o'clock hour and I thought the interaction between her and her husband was great. At one piont her husband had me LMAO. I think she has potential for morning drive on what I heard.

I was in the WHJJ studio during the 5:00 hour, shooting video for Channel 12. I got to speak with Sally for a short time during a commercial break. She seemed to be a very nice lady, and I was happy to get to speak with her. I joked with her about the TV camera being in her face. I said "and you thought you got away from the TV cameras for good!" She laughed. It was a pleasure to meet her. In my opinion, having Sally on is a good chage of pace for a couple of days. Don't worry people, Arlene will be back on Monday!

I'm not pulling anyones leg. I truly did enjoy Sally's show. Please remember that I grew up listening to Sally on the radio. So it's good memories to hear her back on HJJ again.

I also like the fact that it was a relaxed show which was a very nice contrast compared to the yelling going on at competing stations. I was just in a mood to relax and chill out today. Sally was able to help me get me in that mood. Sally and her husband seem like very personable people. It was kind of like being around the campfire hanging out with friends.

Certain times of day I like Shock Radio. Sometimes I like yelling. Sometimes I like Conflict. I listen to Howard Stern in the morning. I listen to Michael Savage at night. Trust me when I tell you that certain times of day I do enjoy lively radio. No doubt about that. However during the afternoon It seems that I enjoy a nice break from all that fighting. Sally provided me with that break today and I really enjoyed it. I hope she comes back more.

Sally is a veteran broadcaster who could put on a good radio show in her sleep. I'm glad she's at least getting her toes back into it!

I'm biased, though...I listened to her old "TalkNet" show in the 1980's.
