SALLY STARR HAS DIED

RJ Ron Joseph is very sad to announce that his good friend from channel 6, Sally Starr has passed away. Ron loved her everyday as he attended the Dick Clark show that was on the same channel back to back. If you'd love to see happier moments with RJ and Sally, click on this interview that he and Sally did in 1992 at his old tv station, channel 7, Philadelphia. http://www.rjforever.com/sally1.html

Her tv work was well known, but she certainly had a long radio career, going back to hosting a country show on WJMJ 1540. In the 1980's she came back to radio on then-country formatted WTTM 920 Trenton, followed by a run of several years in the '90's on Sunday mornings, doing classic country on Jerry Blavat's WPGR 1540 "Geator Gold Radio". From there she took the Sunday show to WVLT 92.1 for several years. She retired the show but came back later with a one hour country show "Suppertime Jamboree" on WVLT Saturdays 5-6pm. It was obvious her health was failing when she said the one hour show was "too much for her" in 2011 and she retired for good. Her shows featured a lot of the same songs, same artists each week but fans seemed to like hearing her favorite songs, her stories, and just staying connected with her via. the radio!

Bye Bye Our Gal Sal. I first met you in 1962 a grocery store in West Oak Lane was remodeled and you made a personal appearence. Then in 1968 at the cement bagel on City Ave. wher I got to visit you new "permanent" studio. I will always remember the years of watching the 3 stooges and all the cartoons including tha bazar Clutch Clargo. I do remember you one big on air blooper, At the time you were sponsored by a grocery chain "Food Fair" and she accidentally said "Penn Fruit" by mistake, I think she apologised 10 times for the mistake. RIP Sally!
