Salt Lake Radio obervation so far. Part I.

88.3 KCPW - Good NPR News, alot of billboard advertisement throught out the valley, also I like they have BBC worldservice overnight.
89.1 KBYU - Good Classical music, not like KDFC when they only play certian classical hits.
90.1 KUER - Typical NPR Station, not much to say.
90.9 KRCL - don't know, don't listen
91.7 KUFR - yuck! another family radio station.
92.5 KUUU - Not that impressive being CHR-Rhythmic station, it seems that they play safe rhythmic, and not much mixes or fresh stuff.
93.3 KUBL - Don't listen to country, don't know
94.1 KODJ - Plays a lot of do-wop oldies. Rimindes me of KISN 97.1 in Portland before they move to the am dial.
94.9 KHTB - THeir rock music is boring, same old crap.
95.5 KYFO - ZZzzzzz!!!!! Bad signal into SLC.
96.3 KXRK - Good alternative, not leaning acitve rock or adult alternative.
97.1 KZHT - what that spanglish thing a nite. Its kind of annoying.
97.9 KBZN - don't listen to smooth jazz.
98.3 (K252DJ) - typical CHR, plays a lot of new and old hits.
98.7 KBEE - pefect bright ac station, but overplayed alot of howie day music.
99.5 KJMY - my 99.5 overplayed the same songs, and its like a clone of 103.1 KCDA in Spokane.

Partl II coming soon. Too many stations to list.

PART II
100.3. KSFI - Good AC music, but too soft for my taste. I'm surprise there still a soft AC station left in the country since most of the AC station has shifted to Bright AC. Don't like sundays because of Hymm or spiritual music.
101.1 KBER - Okay rock station
101.5 KEGA - don't listen to country.
101.9 KPQP - Hate it, overplayed pop music, do we need to hear Kelly Clarkston every half-hour?
102.3 KDUT - No hablas espanol. Sorry.
102.7 KQMB - STAR 102.7, good variety of hot ac music.
103.1 KJQN - 103.1 Jack FM, boring, do we need this station since most of the salt lake radio already been covered with this format.
103.5 KRSP - Good classic hits station, but I whish SLC has a classic rock station.
104.3 KSOP - Don't listen to country.
105.7 KXRV - 105.7 the river, boring classic hits station.
106.5 KOSY - Way too soft for my taste, I hate sundays because they play hymm music which makes me fall asleep.
107.5 KENZ - Reminds me of the old 105.7 the peak in Spokane. But I whish it would sound like KINK in Portland.
107.9 KUDD - Overplayed music

AM Stations - sorry I don't listen to AM execpt for KSL 1160 which they have very good traffic, and news reports for the Wastach Front area. KNRS 570 sucks when it comes to news.

Just a few comments, as you're entitled to your opinion.

This is the Salt Lake signal of KPCW - a community station from Park City.

> > 89.1 KBYU - Good Classical music, not like KDFC when they
> > only play certian classical hits.
The pride of BYU.

> > 90.1 KUER - Typical NPR Station, not much to say.
The University of Utah's station.

> > 90.9 KRCL - don't know, don't listen
A good free form station.

Hey, it's not bad for a "non ethnic" market. They're far more daring than WJMN in Boston!

> > 93.3 KUBL - Don't listen to country, don't know
It's a very good country station, and I don't care for country either.

> > 94.1 KODJ - Plays a lot of do-wop oldies. Rimindes me of

No do-wop, but a larger playlist than most oldies stations.

> > 94.9 KHTB - THeir rock music is boring, same old crap.

You havent missed much...religion crap.

X96 is a great alt rocker.

> > 97.1 KZHT - what that spanglish thing a nite. Its kind of

Pretty ordinary CHR, IMO.

Translator for KVFX (94.5) Logan.

I'm not much of a fan.

Dunno about Spokane, but they do play a lot of 80's modern rock, which remains popular in SLC. I do not find them to have a short playlist...in fact its pretty deep.

well, its owned by the LDS Church, so what do you expect. Its the long time #1 in the market though, with translators EVERYWHERE. Used to be KSL-FM, waaaay back.

I think you mean "no hablo espanol." Which means that you didn't enjoy 106.1 either.

99.5 used to be a classic rocker, 93.3 before that. 103.5 will probably go in that direction, if they are smart.

> 104.3 KSOP - Don't listen to country.
Well, you missed a good locally owned station that plays new stuff and classics. One of America's best country stations.

> 105.7 KXRV - 105.7 the river, boring classic hits station.
Yeah, straddling AAA and CR.

> 106.5 KOSY - Way too soft for my taste, I hate sundays

It's light AC for older LDS folks.

> 107.5 KENZ - Reminds me of the old 105.7 the peak in

Personally, I like 107.5 the End - but the more contemporary X96 does seem to get the ratings. They play a lot of older stuff, which is good for me!

> 107.9 KUDD - Overplayed music

Couldn't agree more. Also on 103.9.

KSL is the news leader, KNRS is the big conservative talker. The rest of the am dial is frought with Spanish, brokered time, and dull stuff.

KPCW's schedule is different from KCPW's. There's only some overlap.

Thanks for pointing that out. Many, if not most, of the programs are the same - but with a different schedule.

But, it's run from the same place (at least it was).

KCPW moved to Library Square about a year or two ago. I've heard they have very nicely equipped studios there, but I haven't seen them myself. KPCW is located in the City Hall building in Park City.

Thanks for the update - I didn't know about that move. So, they have diverged quite a bit lately!

The only shared programming (that I'm aware of):
Midday Utah (Formerly called the Public Affairs Hour) hosted by Blair Feulner in PC. (9 to 10 am Monday through Friday)

Also, both air the BBC World Service overnight from 10 pm to about 5 am the next morning, but they must no longer simulcast as KCPW now places local on-air announcements in it and only ID's its two signals at the top of the hour. Until a few years ago, K-PC-W Park City was also ID'ed there. K-PC-W also just entered the Evanston, Wyoming area on KCWW 88.1 FM. Reports have been positive from that area.
