Sam Champion Back on ABC Good Morning America Saturday

Weather forecaster Sam Champion had been on GMA weekdays for many years. But in 2014, he switched to The Weather Channel to be its principal morning host, and also contribute to the Today show on NBC, the parent company of the Weather Channel. He presumably got a bigger contract to make the switch from broadcast TV to a struggling cable channel that NBC hoped could be revived.

The ratings never got the expected bump and Champion left the Weather Channel and NBC at the end of 2016. Today, Feb. 17, 2017, he returned as a fill in weather forecaster on the Saturday edition of Good Morning America on ABC.

I remember Sam Champion when he was listed as the fill in person for Spencer Christian on Good morning America in the 1990's. That's when Champion was mainly with WABC-TV at the time.

Champion has been a fill in person at GMA until Disney moved Spencer Christian to KGO-TV ABC7 San Francisco and take over Pete Giddings spot for weather segments two decades ago.

You mean 2018?

Yeah, Sam really thought he was worth more than he was when he jumped ship. I think this return is more like he crawled back.

yeah, Sam Champion pulled a Homer Simpson, but unlike Homer, he didn't leave one job for a dream jobt
in fact, i have a mental image of Sam returning to ABC News where he was told to walk into a doggy door to the bosses office like Homer did in said episode i'm referencing to get his job back.

I don't know if I would say TWC is struggling. Sam wasn't a good fit. He was billed as the headliner when in reality Cantore is the big face of the network. I don't think Sam Champion had the personality for cable weather. He is a morning show weatherman for soccer moms. Much like Al Roker never really fit at TWC.
