Sam Johnson 1968-2009

Sam Johnson from Savannah, GA has passed away at the age of 41 due to on-going health issues. Sam has been a fixture in Savannah radio for many, many years working at just about every station at one time or another.

RIP Sam, you will be missed.

Sam was the first dude I got to hang out with when I got my gig at WIXV and he made me feel as comfortable as possible . He was part of my posse during my time in SAV and always up for a good time. I will miss having super hero arguments and having him tell me that I was a decent jock for a yankee. This sucks. :-[

I too will not be able to attend the service and would greatly appreciate any info on where I can send something.

guys, send me an email with your personal email and I will give you the info.

Some really great stories. Some really good times. Sam was a gem. He worked for me in Hinesville and the best part of it was that he loved radio. It didn't always love him back, but he was forgiving. Lots of talent. I'll never forget us hosting karaoke at Buffalo's in Hinesville and I didn't have a clue that he could sing. He was doing a remote and got the karaoke mike and just killed a song. I was blown away and so was everyone in the place. To say he had hard times is a giant understatement, but as long as I knew him he kept fighting back. Sam we will miss you...it will be easier now. :'(

How devastatingly sad. :( My condolences go out to his family, friends, former co-workers, and all of us Sam fans/Savannah radio aficionados.

He was an amazing personality and immensely talented and though I never met him, he always made you feel like you knew him as much as a close family member. I can even remember the local public access show he co-hosted on Cable Seven in the early/mid '90s. Does anyone remember the name of that or the co-host's name? He was excellent on that show.

Savannah radio has suffered a really genuine loss. RIP, Sam. We'll miss you.

I am told it was either called Underground Savannah or Savannah Underground.

Sam Johnson was one of those "radio gym jocks" that loved being on the air. He was a good person as well. Upon hearing of his passing, I thought about our many conversations at the Bar-Bar. It was one radio story after another...good times. Opinionated, yes...stubborn, no doubt! But, Sam was always willing to support the stations he was a part of. We lost one of the good ones. My condolences to his family and friends.

Sorry to hear about Sam. I worked with him at Adventure and he was always fun to be around. Sometimes nuts but, what one of us wasn't in that building. I'll always remember how much Mike Buxser helped Sam out the best he could with some of his issues health wise. God bless Sam. Have fun in heaven!
