Voiceover ace SAM O’NEIL passed away Friday (8/3) following a battle with non-Hodgkins T-Cell Lymphona. He was first diagnosed with the disease last APRIL; he had been undergoing intense chemotherapy treatments for 10 days before passing.

I was shockded to hear this last Friday. A truly respectable professional and gentleman. Five stars all the way. He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Sam for a number of years at the last place he worked before going out on his own. One of the most positive, uplifting people I have ever known. I will always feel blessed that I had the chance to know him.

Godspeed Sammy.

We are truly shocked and saddened by the loss of our good friend Sammy. He has been our voice guy at Rock Hits Y102 in Reading, PA since the late 1990's. Our Program Director Al Burke said "When we finished each ratings book at #1, I called and thank Sam because he was part of our team that made it happen." Sammy's little "extras" included with our imaging were some of the funniest stuff we never wrote. He was a true professional and a good friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and kids. I'm sure he's busy already as the voice of Heaven Radio. Rest in peace good friend, you will be missed.

My god..what an incredible loss of an even more incredible talent. Can anyone tell me how old he was?

Thanks.

I believe he was only in his early 40s, around age 41.

Hi my name is Bianca Ferraro, I am Sam's oldest daughter. I would like to thank all of you for your support and high regards of my dad. I'm sure he is grateful to know that he made a difference in your lives and all over the radio. Lately I've been missing him like crazy and I decided to Google his name, just to see what it said. Fortunately, I stumbled across this blog. You all brightened up my day. May God bless all of you!

I love you daddy.

Sam had just turned 40 on July 6th of 2007

Bianca....I knew your father, and was saddened to hear about his passing last year. He was always extremely professional, and a truly nice guy.

God Bless You, and Your Family...

Take Care,

I remember when "Rockin Ross" was on KRRI! Our friendship, love for the biz, and similar attitudes blossomed as the years of friendship went by. His professional manner, great sense of humor, and passion for everything made him the great talent he was. We had so many "bets" over the years. We were competitors for years, and eventually, worked for the same company for a bit. Sam never forgot where he came from, and was a friend to all good people. I wish his family the best there is to offer. Our business, and world is defnitely a bit darker without him. The nice thing is, we all have an angel to watch over us now.

I had heard about Sam's passing a year ago but just now stumbled on to this thread. As a production guy putting together promos that Sam voiced, I have to say he was just awesome. I used almost all of the "extras" that he threw in there. After I would stop laughing, I had to find a way to use them. As a night guy dj, hearing Sam say my name in that oh-so-cool voice of his made me feel like I had made it....like I was a real celeb. Our station (obviously) got a new VO guy, but he's nothing like Sam O'Neil. No "extras" and very few takes. I should send him some Sam stuff so he can hear how the best do it. Sam O'Neil was one of the best. I didn't know him personally, but I still miss his work and the way he nailed it. Every time. I still go back from time to time and listen to the stuff I produced and whenever I want to feel like a celeb? I go to my first master he did for us.

Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

Thanks.

I haven't been on here in a while, but Bianca's thread prompted me to post.

Sam was not only a great talent/coach/producer, he was also a wonderful friend to so many, including me. And most importantly, he was a man who was incredibly devoted to his family. I miss him every day. Bianca, you have much to be proud of with not only your Dad, but also with your Mom and your sisters. My love and prayers are with you all.

WOW!! You all have such great things to say about my dad and I have enjoyed reading all of them. I am sure he is watching over us all and is doing voice overs with his dad Art Kevin in heaven. Thank you all for your support and prayers. Talk to you all soon

I was so blown away when I heard about Sam. I became close to the Ferraros in the mid 90s after Art sold KRRI. ( I worked there in the mid 90s). I knew Sam through him and worked with him at KFMS. I wanted to pay my respects but was unable to reach anyone in the family. Art was a very special person in my life and the entire Ferraro family took me in when I felt so alone in Las Vegas, even spending Christmas day at Sam's house. Bianca I'm sure I met you then. I noticed you read this board. I hope Jodi is doing well. I don't know whether this is allowed on this board, but if you can Bianca, I'd like to connect with you to find out how everyone is.
I can be reached through the email link to my website, http://www.bobj.us.
God bless the Ferraro family. Art and Sam were very special and very loved people and will always be remembered.

I had the pleasure of working for Art at KRRI shortly after its sign on and was one of the two people, Luke Micheals being the other, than trained the then "Ross McCain" to go on air. We had a station event to do and needed someone to plug in weathers and such and Art told us to get Ross ready to go....It was a pleasure to hear his imaging as I drove around. He was a consumate professional and I was saddened to read of his untimely passing......Massive talent and a good man.....God bless you Sam and your family too.
