Sam Putney

Reading between the lines on his facebook page, I believe Sam Putney has left K104. I know I have not heard him or Chris Arnold this morning and Sam also said on his page that someone was going with him. Anybody have details on this?

Are they still listed on the website. Is K104 clearing out the "old folks" again??

It sure looks that way. Look who they hired for middays.

I see what they are trying to do in the mid-days but I don't think they choose the right person. Not sure what Michael Erickson was thinking when he hired Suga Rae.

Re: Sam Putney & Chris Arnold

It's Official both Sam Putney & Chris Arnold are out as of Friday. I understand the move but hate to see it come about. Maybe Chris Arnold to the Fan.

Shocker!!!

I never thought Chris Arnold would get fired. He's been there since what 1981 or 1982? Almost 30 years. So since they got fired, are their non-competes null and void.

Depends. I know that Mondo and Dean's non-compete's only restricted them from being on sports stations. Sam & Chris may have urban station restrictions and Chris may have a sports station clause in his as well. That's a shame.

That show sounded so boring this morning. They sounded like some people caught off guard. I just wonder who are they going to bring in now?...

I understand the move to.. but with all honesty, who would you rather listen to every morning.. Sam Putney or Lady Jade. They need to figure out something quick because the morning show is sounding rather horrible.

What the hell is the matter with this industry these days?

Only idiotic suits in upper management would push out good talent. If they are so concerned with the bottom line so damn much then apparently they want to see K-104 falter for sure in the morning. I've that urbans that push out veterans for half-assed younger talent always suffers in PPMs immediately...

sam is one of the good guys, worked with him many moons ago in l.a, the industry is changing but talents like sam will always find a home, stay up putput

I think Chris Arnold has (had) been there since 1979. I believe he replaced Dwaine Caraway on sports. Probably made too much money after all these years, and you know that's the kiss of death in radio these days.

According to All Access, they are not replacing Chris and Sam. Is this a money thing or a demographic move???

Probably both. Radio, like most/all advertsing mediums are down 20% or more in the last 2 years. (and no, it's not just radio, the stock market is down, our 401K's are down, etc etc. It's teh overall economy, not the radio's death-knell)

At some point when you're down that much and not rebounding quickly, it makes business sense to cut costs. So yes, it's a money thing.

And if K104 is trying to appeal to young urban peeps, having a guy that's been on the station longer than most of the listeners have been around might not be the brightest move. So yes, it's a demographic thing.

Any possibility that the door is now open for getting Skip Murphey & Co. back together.......That dream may be dead though.......

Yep pretty much. Where would they land? Not on KSOC. Radio One owns 51% of Reach Media, so Joyner stays on there. The same with Rickey Smiley on 97.9. Not KLIF-FM, wayyyyyyy different audience. Skip Murphy and Co. is done in this market.

How about afternoons on KRNB? I still say with Sean Andre's voice, he should be hosting "The Quietstorm".

Skip Murphy is a morning man. Afternoons are a different animal. Look at Russ Parr. When the morning gig at WKYS in DC came up, he got out of D/FW quick, fast and in a hurry.
