WEWS 5 (CBS to ABC 1955)

Stations that started out as independents and then joined Fox, UPN/My, or WB/CW are not shown. Stations that became independents after their network left are shown.

Phoenix
KTVK 3 - ABC (1955) to independent (1995)*
KPHO 5 - CBS primary (1949) to Dumont (1955) to independent (1956), back to CBS (1994)
KOOL 10 - ABC (1953) to CBS (1955)
KSAZ 10 - CBS (March 1994) to independent (September 1994) to Fox (December 1994)
KNXV 15 - Fox (1986) to ABC (1994)**

* KTVK ran WB programming on weekends through most of 1995, time-shifted.
** KNXV was technically an independent for a month in late 1994, but was carrying some ABC shows that KTVK had dropped. It ran the full ABC schedule beginning in January 1995.

Indianapolis
WTTV 4 - NBC primary (1949) to ABC (1956) to independent (1957) to UPN (1995) to WB (1998) to CW (2006)
WFBM 6 - CBS primary (1949) to NBC (1956)
WRTV 6 - NBC (1972) to ABC (1979)
WISH 8 - ABC primary (1954) to CBS (1956)
WTHR 13 - ABC (1976) to NBC (1979)

Chicago
WGN 9 - CBS/Dumont (1948) to Dumont (1953) independent (1956) to WB (1995) to CW (2006)

Sedalia MO
KMOS 6 - ABC (1959, s-KMBC) to CBS (1961, s-KRCG) to PBS (1978)
This is the only station I can think of that went from commercial to non-commercial and kept the same call letters.

Rochester, NY

WROC-TV (Ch. 8) NBC to CBS (1988)
WHEC-TV (Ch. 10) CBS to NBC (1988)

A straight swap which left the ABC affiliate (WOKR, now WHAM-TV on Channel 13), the PBS affiliate (WXXI Channel 21) and the Fox affiliate (WUHF, Ch. 31) as they were, and still are.

Agreed; WWOR and I believe KCOP also used to run this drivel. If you don't call yourselves, say, PTEN 9, then it's not a real network. Period.

As I said, its status is disputed. You and I will agree to disagree, I suppose.

Also from the Tucson market: Sierra Vista's KWBA 58 began as a WB affiliate in 1999 and became CW in 2006. Supposedly, the calls meant WB Arizona; they haven't changed.

Omaha
KMTV 3 - CBS primary (1949) to NBC (1956), back to CBS (1986)
WOW-TV/WOWT 6 - NBC primary (1949) to CBS (1956), back to NBC (1986)

WNYW 5 (Indie to FOX 1987)

WNYW was originally WABD a Dumont O & O. After Dumont failed it was sold to Metro Media and became WNEW and an independent. They changed the calls when Fox bought the station and switched to WNYW.

Raleigh/Durham:

WTVD, est. 1954 (NBC/ABC 1954-56, CBS/ABC 1956-1962, CBS/NBC 1962-~1970, CBS~1970-1985, ABC 1985-present).

WRAL-TV, est. 1956 (NBC/ABC 1956-1962, ABC 1962-1985, CBS 1985-present).

WLFL, est. 1981 (Ind 1981-1987, Fox, 1987-1998, WB 1998-2006, CW 2006-present).

WRAZ est. 1995 (WB 1995-1998, Fox 1998-present)

Going way back in Erie, PA, WICU/12 was primary ABC for a number of years before switching to NBC.

WGR/2 in Buffalo (now WGRZ) was with ABC for a number of years before switching to NBC when WKBW signed on. It kept the WGR call letters for over 25 years after that.

@spencerkarter85: channel 28 in L.A. is actually KCET. The KCAL call letters can be found on a CBS-owned commercial indie on channel 9 in the same market.
