At first I laughed at the mistake. Then I heard it again. Could be it was recorded that way. Could be the kid needs a lesson on how to pronounce the word. That word is "DEPEND". It is pronounced as "DEE-PEND". There is no such word as "DAH-PEND". So if you want us to "Depend On It" then please say it that way. Oh yes, the number aften "ten" is "EEE-LEV-ENN" and not "AHH-LEV-ENN".

If you enjoy this sort of thing, listen to WDBO. I recently heard "non-parTEESan" instead of non-partisan.
But the most consistent and strangest errors lie in some newsreaders' choice of which words to emphasize in a sentence. Whereas the average person would say "Empire STATE Building", they kept reporting that the recent violence occurred at the "Empire State BUILDING".

WDBO and the braintrust at Cox brag about their staffing and coverage but some of the announcers are just down right God awful. Must be ok to hire minimum wage, no college degree folks and "train" them to be on the radio.
Here's an idea: who's coaching these announcers? Are they broadcast ready? Do they use proper english, know how to announce, use proper inflection, etc...?

If you're going into a news break with an unfamiliar word in your copy, it's incumbent upon you to ask someone for the correct pronunciation or look it up online. Then practice saying it before you go live so you don't stumble.

Agree with all of the above...they sound like teenagers, who never learned to write, let alone NEWS writing.
"Depend" is actually pronounced "dih-pend". It's not a long e sound. Same with eleven. So let's look for bigger issues to get worked up about.
The words "is", "are" and "was" are frequently emphasized as if there were some opposing opinion. "That trial IS scheduled to begin..." Well, did someone say it isn't?

Thanks...most of you guys made me laugh! Here's some more..."Bob Cow-zee" instead of Bob Cousey. "On cara" instead of "Ank- cah-rah" the town in Turkey. There was a Mercury car model called the "mer-cure" but I've heard spots calling it the "Merr-ker". Then the Chevy Lumina! I heard a female do a spot calling it the "Ah-loo-minn-ah". ='ve actually heard some news girl call the baseball team the "Picks-burgh Pirates". Oh yes, she was a college graduate!
...then there's the ever-present "opening arguments" when referring to a trial that's about to begin. I also wish they'd learn to properly pronounce the name of the New England state in which Boston is located. It's not Massa-two-s**ts. Forget about them getting a central Mass. city correct. Worcester is not Wor-ces-ter, it's Woostah!
And Peabody is Pea'-biddy, Quincy is Quin-zee. I could go on and on...
