Same Old, Tired "Personalities" Make The Rounds

There are a few talented radio people in Philly (past and present), but, without naming names, it seems to me that even more of the old and tired "personalities" make the rounds of the broadcast outlets over and over in Philly. When fired from one, they invariably pop up at another within weeks or months. It's like playing "Whack-A-Mole" with these guys.

I find Barsky (who is one of the 'mole' offenders you are referring to) really boring. That cadre is unlistenable.

I've been in a rented car and away from Sirius. I resorted to FM/AM. The best moments were delivered by WMMR (which surprised me) an exchange between Sid Marks and Pierre Robert, playing Sinatra clips-reminded me of free-form radio; WHYY's Radio Times featuring Harry Shearer (who kills anyway). Most unlistenible: WPHT at night (some female host and some woman flogging a book about 'liberated housewives', and this other guy, Italian name, annoying voice) is god-awful. AM 900 was...interesting.

But I gotta say, other than that, Philly radio is pretty crap.

They show up at competing stations 'cause they've earned the place in the community. They've paid their dues. They've volunteered to make the rounds at CHOP and Deborah. They've rung the bell on Chestnut Street for the Salvation Army in the bitter cold. They've worked hard to earn a reputation as a good neighbor. It wasn't handed to them.

Just because their employer changed the format of the station at which they were employed, why SHOULDN'T they turn up at a competitor. They're luck to get 'em. The station gets the name recognition and the goodwill it represents, the jock gets a respectable job where they're, well, respected!
