Sami from KISS 106.1

I have been out of the loop for a while. Can anyone tell me what really happened to Sami from the Jackie and Bender Show on KISS 106.1?

It has been a while!

She got let go back in december when CBS was trying to "Slim the costs" in preperation for the Clear Channel swap.

p.s. its "106.1 KISS FM" now lol

I agree that Sami is a good talent and deserves to work again in Seattle. Her numbers were much stronger than Ryan Seacrests in the waning days of the diary. PPM is an unfair comparison but Seacrest is not knocking anyone out in my humble view. A solid talent in my humble opinion and I have some experience working with her.

She actually resigned at the end of 2008 to join her husband who had already moved to Denver for a job there, and though you may have worked with her radioprofessor, she wasn't on outside of Jackie and Bender. Perhaps you're confusing her with Kristin the Island Girl (she was formerly middays on KISS)?

My point was the parameter of syndicated versus local does not mean better ratings. Sami worked with J@B and did some weekends and fill-in as I recall. Better to have local talent than listen to syndicated Clear Channel programming on weekends, in my humble opinion. I believe American Idol talent were hosting in syndication this weekend across the Clear Channel group. It was awful programming. I use Seacrest compared to local as the prime example that letting local talent go is not wise and her weekend numbers exceeded his current mid-day numbers, as I recall. His numbers are probably lower than Kristin's as well. I did not know Sami moved to Denver, since I have not been involved in the Seattle market for a couple of years. Again, the point remains: good local talent generally does better than syndication in music formats.

Well Seacrest was #1 Teens, #1 P12-24, #2 P18-24, #1 P18-34, and #1 P25-34 in May. In Fall (the last full book with Kristen), she was #2, #3, #4, #4, and #6 in the above demos. While PPM has dramatically helped KBKS, it's hard to just flatly say that a syndicated program will always be beat by local talent.

I'd also point out that Seacrest does one hell of a syndicated show. His localized breaks are spot on and the transitions from his pre-recorded "106.1 KISS FM, It's Seacrest" to his content is flawless.

As a radio lover, I hate seeing live and local jocks be fired...I loved Kristen as a jock and miss her on air. However, Seacrest is cheaper, more mass appeal, and does a great job. Slam dunk for KBKS as you see in the ratings.

Too bad we never got to see Kristin's #'s in PPM, while Seacrest's May PPM is better than her Fall...unless we knew how she did in PPM, it's not a completely fair comparison, although it's clear Seacrest is doing just fine.

Radio Eats....how does Tyler do in PPM rank-wise during PMD in the demos you were quoting?

You are comparing apples and oranges my friend. KBKS nights and afternoons far outperform their mid-day numbers in the PPM 18-34, 24-34 et al. In the coveted 25-54 demographic Seacrest is the worst on the station by far with Jackie and Bender have similar issues in the last couple of months. Kristin, in my humble opinion would have easily beaten Seacrest's numbers. The mid-day numbers for Seacrest nationally are not very strong in the few markets where he is featured in the PPM mid-days We will know more Thursday, but I can pretty much guarantee that his syndicated show will underperform every PPM station that it is on. That, in my humble view, is a problem.

Raydiohead - Tyler was #1, #1, #2, #1 & #1 in those demos in May. He was also #4 P18-49.

professor - apples and oranges, yes. But PPM is the new world we live in (in t-minus 23 hours). Point being, Seacrest is doing fine in the demos that buyers come to KBKS for. Adults 25-54, KBKS is #6 in mornings, #14 middays (you're right, ouch), #9 Afternoons and #3 nights. But if you pull a M-Su 6a-12m ranker like most buyers ask for, they're only #9. Point being, they won't be getting on any 25-54 business regardless of whether Seacrest does well in that demo or not. They are a teens, 18-34 and 18-49 station period. This isn't KIIS LA, Z100 New York, etc. People want to say KBKS is like these powerhouse CHR's in other markets but they're not. They're strong in the demos they SHOULD BE strong in, but can't play in 25-54.

It’s a tough call. Its clear that Local has its quite obvious advantages over syndicated material.
However, Kirstin was nearing 22+ years on KISS FM and it was definitely sounding like it!
She sounded quite awkward on the air. (Same as the Shellie hart situation on KUBE) Out of tune with the target demo.
Seacrest however does CHR for a living. Adding custom bits only helps his numbers as well.

I don''t know who you are confusing her with, but I don't think Island Girl was on Kiss for 20+ yrs. If she was, she definitely looked good for her age. :D

Being that KISS came on the air in its current format back in 1997 (or was it '98?), there is NO WAY she could have been on the air there for 20+ years... and I DO miss Sammi on in the morning... her and Jubal together were a riot... I only thought to myself "if only Jackie and Bender would have taken more vacations" the show would have been much funnier! Good luck to you in Denver, Sammi... if you are reading this... you are very much missed!
