All listed pop songs are dance remixes unless otherwise stated

Just looking at this list, which dance station would you choose?
BPM's music selection isn't that bad as the people complaining make it seem.

wow, they all need work....what's up with all the Gold stuff? I could understand if the Gold selections were staples, but I see alot of filler. I see alot of currents being ignored simply because they are not pushed by domestic labels.

For terrestrial radio, to keep it safe, my preference sound would be similar to the Pulse, 90.3, and iParty Radio format would be good. I mostly like pop on rhythmic, top 40, pop, or rhythmic top 40 stations.

If I had The Pulse and iParty Radio sound already in terrestrial radio, then the only reason I'd desire to bother going outside of terrestrial radio is if it was like Energy 98 (without the high level of recurrents) or Radio Danz or something that terrestrial radio doesn't already have to offer.

If a more current sounding Energy 98, or Radio Danz were the sound of terrestrial dance stations, I'd probably only flip around whenever I desired hearing anything else except for dance, such as r&b, light rock, pop, alternative...etc., or if I wanted to hear something extra and deeper that wasn't already covered in Energy or Radio Danz.

But overall, at this point, I'd gladly take whatever I could get on terrestrial radio where I live, even if it means desperately listening to the one top 40 station that only plays two songs produced by David Guetta and a bunch of uptempo pop and dance leaning hits as dance. I love to hear the 90's euro dance on Adult AC MIX format stations, and some other forms of recurrents played on oldies/classic hits, or during a specified special time.
____________________________________________________________________________________________

Ironically, my Ipod is mostly rhythmic / urban pop and dance hits, booty bass, electro bass, electro-freestyle, 2 Step, and breakbeat. A majority of it and the playlists are all current (or even future), original urban pop and dance hits, unless the remixes are just as good or better. The electro, booty, 2 step, house...etc content are all in one playlist, that I only listen to when I want to hear a certain song loudly, while some of the really good mainstream / urban sounding bass/dance hits are in other pop playlists or mixes I listen to frequently. No Disney music in remix or original form, even though I highly respect Miley Cirus, Jonas Brothas, and Taylor Swift and other similar artists for being as talented as they are, sometimes even making their music much more meaningful than a lot of the hip hop releases that manage to pass today. I do have a back in the day and today music playlist that I've been "getting around to making" for the past 9 months now. If that shall ever materialize, then that's where all the 90' and even 80's stuff will be.

Sometimes I have to force myself to remember that within my own Ipod, I have the right to put whatever I wish together because it's all just music, but after years of mental programming, I've been trained to believe that some things shouldn't be put within the same playlist because it just doesn't "sound right". As a result, even my Ipod ends up sounding like it is corporately owned, but regardless of how much I've been trained to believe things should be a certain way, I haven't been socially conditioned enough for you to ever catch me playing Radio Disney hits, unless..... well, if that unless time someday becomes reality, then I'll explain... but that's just me and my preference. I don't mind what type of dance / pop music I play if I'm performing / mixing for the public.

For the most part, I'm not really too much of a big fan of dance remixes of pop hits constantly being over played outside of hit music mix shows. The only reason I get so excited about them on top 40 radio is because it makes me begin to think "Yes! Maybe There's HOPE!" But that's only on top 40, or even rhythmic formats. As far as a bunch of dance pop being played back to back continuously and out numbering the original dance hits outside of a terrestrial top 40 or dance lean top 40 format, I'd probably want to tune out within a few minutes.

Thats not a correct sample hour for Z889. You took from part of the 2 o'clock hour and went into the 3 o'clock hour. We are playing one tribute song to Michael Jackson(Rockwell)

Every one of those stations has a solid following( Not sure about the Core station) and we play what our listeners want. Our listeners like hearing the gold records. In Philly those are gold records. Maybe before making a statement about a station understand their market better.

You should do daypart samples. Morning, midday, evening. You'll see a difference!

Hold up everybody, there's something serious here that you're all ignoring that we need to address ASAP...
KDM, you think the Jonas Brothers are (gasp!) talented? ??? :p

I, um.... well... well what had happened was the doorbell, well, I think my sister typed that in when I left the room to answer the phone! Then the Dr Pepper commercial came on around the same time too, so I got distracted. Then I had my Ipod playing and a dance pop song came on back to back! So after the series of events took place, I came back and was too distracted to notice the Jonas Brothers was in there and so I continued to write!

More people went to Jonas Brothers concerts this year than bought dance music :( Don't ask me to proove it. I just know it's true. (Cuz I'm that good)

i mean 'prove'.

Out of those playlists, I'd go with iPartyradio.com as my favorite. They always do a great job, and the station is fun to listen to. Sirius/XM missed the boat. iPartyradio is the type of format they "should" have put on for their dance hits channel (instead of the mess that is BPM). My next choice would be Pulse 87. Too bad Joel Salkowitz (Pulse PD) didn't stay with Sirius, because when he programmed "the Beat" several years ago it sounded great. (Now, as I said, BPM is just a pathetic mess; both musically and especially production-wise).

Anyway, my vote goes to iPartyRadio.com, with Pulse 87 being 2nd. (I would put Energy 92.7 San Francisco as my next choice. Why were they excluded from your comparison?)

The title of this thread states that it's sample hours of a few FM and internet Dance stations. Not every one of them. That would take him days to do as there's plenty of webcasters from outside the US.
If someone wants to do a sample hour of Electric FM or C-89.5 that would be appreciated, but you can't expect Nick to do it all himself.
The ppl lashing out at Nick are the programmers of a few of these Dance stations. Nick is spot on - he's doing it from a listener's perspective. A listener doesn't just tune in at 2 PM sharp, or at exactly 4 ocklock. A listener tunes in and samples a station whenever.
That's exactly what Nick did, and that's exactly how your typical listener is impressed/unimpressed by your station.
Ipartyradio is not my cup of tea these days as there's wayyyy too many remixes of Pop hits. That's just me, my personal opinion.
If I'm looking for a good Dance hits station from that list I'm much more inclined to listen to Energy 98 or Pulse 87. Energy 98 really goes out of its way to seek out the best in Dance music from around the world. It plays the right Recurrents for me, and has the right imaging.
Pulse 87 has great personalities, and they know that with some Pop records it's best to leave them alone or just play them in their original form or not at all.
If I want a Dance station that respects Pop records in their original form, seeks out older titles that have a history for their market, and tries to find plenty of current Dance that fits in with its overall sound then I'll listen to Z-88.9.

If you grew up on stations like Power 96, Q-102, Hot 97, and the likes you know those stations aired very very few remixes of Pop songs. They also played some ballads, and other records to satisfy the females.
Some of the Dance stations that play these Circuit anthem remixes to Pop hits are great for the gay listeners, and there's obviously a large LGBT audience that enjoys these types of stations. It doesn't mean that the LGBT community is the only one tuned it these stations, but they are the core, the P1s. The other stations that are either more Pure Dance, or play a few Pop records unremixed are the ones that do a better job of catering to the rest of the population. Even then you can divide it up between those that seek the more Underground Dance stations versus those looking to hear the latest Dance hits.

Nick, you did a great job bro.

No one is lashing out at Nick - we just pointed out that his sample hours were bits and pieces of sections of hours. For IPR, he seemed to start later in the day and work backward. My point was, that if he's doing sample hours, why didn't he just listen for an hour and post what really happened as opposed to chopping it up and twisting it around. A typical listeners does not pull out sections of hours and think about how to reconstruct them on a message board. We're just standing behind our products and pointing out inconsistencies, no disrespect to anyone.

And thanks to those who have complimented iPartyRadio. As many of you are aware, I've never said that iPartyRadio was meant to be a pure dance station. Over the last 4 years (July 15th, 2009 will be our 4th birthday by the way), we have found our niche and we've gone with it. All those pop remixes we play have become a big part of what our audience wants and expects from us. We now have 4 years of research to prove it. If we're not for you, we're not for you - but there's reasons why we do what we do.

I hate to point it out, but has anyone noticed that the launching of this entire topic and a few other recent things were all secretly influenced by the BPM situation?

It was the massive amounts of complaints I saw elsewhere that really inspired me to even bring up this topic in the first place, and I believe this entire thread has also stemmed from that topic as well... But just like in talk radio, I used another situation to slide into some extra topics and make a point of my own. I guess I've learned one of the secrets behind interesting talk radio! You see something getting very passionate attention elsewhere, you form your own opinions to the point you're passionate enough to want to speak on it, start your own "show", and you use that other situation to segway into other things and introduce it to a different audience... then you have someone else who ironically happens to jump on and use the same topic to segway into their own version of the topics around the same time, introducing it to the same audience, resulting in making the story look even bigger since "everyone's talking about it"... but no need for me to "kill the passion" that is taking place right now with this "dance music meets pop situation" by making people consciously aware of what's happening.

Looking at the playlist, my choice to listen to would be Radio Danz. It didn't appear to have overplayed rehashed doggie yipper stuff... Like Cascada. And did I see a mention of Electric FM? Oh man... "America's Real Dance"? How about "America's hip hop trying to be dance"?
