Without a doubt, "The Heart of Rock" is the most feminine slogan ever aired on a rock radio station ANYWHERE. Please prove me wrong by providing a slogan that is more girly that "The Heart of Rock". Are they NOT targeting men?

That's all well & good but...when you start programming a rock station to satisfy radio professionals instead of the everyday listener, you will lose the majority of the time. You may have heard that Pink Floyd song 5,000,000 times, but the average listener thinks of it as an "oh wow" moment.

Do your homework and you will find that most perceptual research shows the number one complaint about radio, besides too many spots (commercials), is unfamiliarity.

Besides, the classic rock listener doesn't want to hear music past 1990 nor new music. Research shows the mentality is that "all music sucks except the music I grew up with" (60s-80s classic rock). See my posts in this thread for reference.

so Huey Lewis had a sex change then?? ;D

TO me anything older than 10 years ago is a classic rock song. I grew up in the 70s-80s so I think of 80s as classic rock. yeah 70s also but people can say 90s rock up to 1997.

Yeah people on a classic rock station do want a familiar song. Active Rock, they want New Songs. Thing about a Active Rock station is, a New Song doesnt have to be from a New Band. It can be New Metallica, or New Ac/Dc or New Tesla... whatever. But they want New Rock. Active Rock testing I feel is bad cause they play the Familiar Songs from 5-15 years ago tooo much. That testing should be more for Classic Rock.

80s Hard Rock is what I prefer (although I some dont) with some 70s big songs and early 90s big songs. It can be Metal, Hairbands, or just Rock like U2,Cure or whatever.

Heres what confusing if a song is 9 years old is it classic rock.where do you draw the line.Same way Actice rock compared to Alterative rock. The Label of rock.In one market a station LABELED Classic rock in one market ,will be called Classic hits in another Market with almost the same play list.Same way with Alternative and Active rock. For example 3 Doors Down (FIRST ALBUM) is classic rock on 105.1 KKBZ.The same way Tears for Fear is classic rock on another classic station 99.7 KIOO.

This station doesn't call themselves classic rock, they use "The Heart of Rock" as their positioning statement.  IIRC they have a liner going by "We play the best classic rock from the past three decades and the best new rock."

Yeah I agree that some bands can be both Modern Rock or Active Rock.. like 3 doors down or Staind...Bands like weezer and toadies are more modern rock and bands like Disturbed, blackstonecherry, puddle of mud are more active rock. Maybe its not only the sound but the "image" of the band? hmm
