Samson USB Mic and Cool Edit/Adobe

I have issues with the Samson mic.

First i bought recorded dual cahnnel mono into adobe. i replaced it with the same model and it only records Mono left channel or a very weak level on the right channel. When summing the two it sounds out of phase?

I have the same issue with another stereo recording program.

Is this a mic issue?

Mike or cable issue, if it performs the same on different software and machines. Most likely a cable problem. But, if you're using the same computer and sound card for the comparison, be sure the sound card and its driver are set up and working properly.

First logical experiment I would try: Using CoolEdit or Audition, record in MONO instead of stereo. How does it sound. If you need dual track/sterio, do file conversion from mono to stereo. Does it now sound out of phase?

Question I do not know the answer for: Using a traditional analog sound card, there are drivers present that do the hand-shaking, the translation between the audio device(sound card) and the software. (Audition)

When you use any USB device.... Samson mic, turntable, M-Audio external AD/DA device, what drivers come into play? Did the Samson come with drivers you need to install?

I dug my Q1U out of cold storage (haven't used it since I bought it because of "digital glitching" - but that's another story) and on mine - like yours - the left channel IS louder than the right. Never knew that.

The best thing to do is record in stereo then remix the recording (aka "Channel Mixer") using only the left channel (choose the "Both=Left") setting (if you want a stereo file). If you need mono, used the "Convert Sample Type" function and set "Right Mix" to 0.

Don't just record in mono as it is summing the left and right channels from the mic.
