Wake me when they are done.

LOL

This is not just in SA....it's all over the U.S. Radio is just flat boring in most U.S. markets.

But when comparing the two markets in our region(SA & Austin), the San Antonio radio dial is better.

Completely disagree, San Antonio radio is as vanilla as Victoria radio

of course you are going to say that. You're name is SARADIO

as a man from Dallas, Ill chime in and say that Austin is heads and shoulders above San Antonio.

San Antonio? Let's see, there's that classical station, and the NPR affiliate. Then there's KSYM and doesn't Trinity still have KRTU? I've had a lot of good listening hours with all four.
Jim Cullum live on the Riverwalk... that's a radio show, right?
Is T-Bone still on KZEP? That guy knows everything and everyone associated with rock.
Stephen O Sellers... man what a talent... the only one better than him on KONO is that Davey Rios guy. Smooth, natural, and very nice.
Is Randy Carroll still on KJ? I really dig Randy. Once again, smooth, natural and nice.
Jim, Bud, Stan, Mike and the gang in the WOAI newsroom... talk about depth of experience. Charley Parker is still on the air there too, isn't he? I always enjoy KKYX when I hear it. How about Bruce Hathaway and Gary DeLaune; are they still doing their show?
Just off the top of my head, I'd say S.A. has something going on.

Except at 9pm when BOB FM does the 9 at 9, and on the weekends when Majic does the Super Songs of the 70s.

However I like KONO's deep cuts of Greatest Hits.

And forgive me, but I forgot KEDA. Quincequarenta!
Ricky Davila/Guero Polkas: "Barbecue Y Doodleee do!"
"Alfaro's bail bonds... dos dos dos nueve dos zero siete! Jot it down, you just might need it Carnalito!"

San antonio Radio bad?? Try listening to Houston for a week.

Sunny 99 KODA has a PPM cume of nearly two million people. They appear to have a handle on what people in Houston will listen to.

They have a handle on what people in Houston will tolerate. It is a safe format that a lot of businesses in and around Houston use for background music on their sound system. I can't think of one group of people that would ever be offended by Sunny. Now, imagine if you cruise into your local Walgreen's and 97.9 was bellowing from the ceiling speakers. Think someone wouldn't complain to management? Think again.

-San Antonio radio worse than Houston radio? I don't see how. Compare the two...
-Soft Rock, Houston is better.
-Country, San Antonio wins this one with KCYY now that KILT has went to h-e-double hockey sticks.
-Oldies, San Antonio has KONO we have none.
-Classic Rock, KZEP worse than KKRW or The Eagle? Not on KZEP's worst day.
-Rock, KISS/KLTO vs. KTBZ. KISS and KLTO are basically hard rock/metal, The Buzz is distinctly alternative. I like KISS better than the Buzz, others would disagree. If you don't like what's playing on KISS, you can flip to KLTO. If you don't like what's on The Buzz, you can flip the radio to CD.
-AAA, S.A. has 92.5, we have 103.7. Common denominator? Poor signal strength. Advantage neither.
-Mix Houston vs. Mix San Antonio we win this one. I can't listen to 96.1 in San Antonio to save my life.
-Hot 95.7 vs. KTFM. CBS has Hot sounding very good. Much like the old Top 40 wars here in Houston back in the 80's. Problem here, KRBE forgot to show up for this war. San Antonio has KTFM. Hello 1985! Problem is KTFM seemed like they were so focused on not failing again that they are trying to hard to please everyone last time I listened. Pick a format and make your mark on it. My God. Advantage Houston.
-80's Music, San Antonio doesn't have one, we'll give you ours. Advantage San Antonio.
-Urban, Majic wins. San Antonio doesn't have an urban.
-Hip Hop, The Box and The Beat have one thing in common. No competition. Neither are very good because of it. I guess The Box has the advantage, but not by much.

A couple of points to clear up for ya -

AAA is not at 92.5 in SA. Its at 106.7. 92.5 in SA is now FM news talk.

Mix SA is way different than Mix Houston. Mix in SA is Top 40. Mix in Houston is Hot AC.

And what Soft Rock station are you comparing Sunny 99.1 to in SA? Theres not really Soft Rock anymore in SA.

Hmm...well, its been a couple of months since I've been to San Antonio to visit so I wasn't aware of the switch of 92.5 and 106.7. So 92.5 is now FM News Talk? Houston tried that with 97.5 a couple of years back. The station didn't last a year. Bad signal, bad content. You can't program a Houston news station that can't be heard in Houston. Now, I don't know what the content of your 92.5 is but I can guarantee you that its signal is doing FM Talk no favors in San Antonio. Mix 96.1 and Mix 96.5 are not as different as you might think. Since CBS has taken over the station here in Houston, it has changed direction and isn't the trainwreck format it once was. Quite a bit of Top 40 artists like Kesha and Lady Gaga are now regularly rotated on Houston's Mix.

The AC Comparison is between Houston's #1 rated KODA and San Antonio's soft rock outlet KQXT. At least it was still soft rock last I heard 101.9. Has that changed too?

Your Mix 96.5 is very similar to our Magic 105.3 not Mix 96.1.

I think Majic is better than Mix 96.5

I have been there recently as I have family over there, and would like to chime in:

-Country, San Antonio wins this one with KCYY now that KILT has went to h-e-double hockey sticks.
Agreed.

Oldies, San Antonio has KONO we have none.
One of the reason's San Antonio radio is better. I remember when Cox took over KLDE, they tried to make it sound a bit like KONO, but to no avail. Houston needs someone else to try classic hits.

-Classic Rock, KZEP worse than KKRW or The Eagle? Not on KZEP's worst day.
ZEP is now only another CC station, it will be a matter of time before they get a syndie morning show. And here in Houston, we can get a 3 stations playing Def Leppard (sp?) at the same time (107.5, 93.7, 106.9) which I did hear not too long ago...talk about hell......

Agreed, and Houston should be ashamed of this.

-AAA, S.A. has 106.7 (corrected), we have 103.7. Common denominator? Poor signal strength. Advantage neither.

X106.7 sounds like a lost station....they already have an identity crisis thing going, are they classic rock, which they play waaay too much of, or are the a wanna be alternative? They will be an alternative soon enough. If they are worried about KISS, just make KISS the place for new music and X for alternative classics, kind of like what KVET and KASE do in Austin with country and both do well. 103.7 in Houston is the best radio station Houston can't hear. I can in Pearland, south of Houston and they are a station that has a real AAA sound. They should because they have sister stations like KFOG in San Francisco....It's my #1 preset.

-80's Music, San Antonio doesn't have one, we'll give you ours. Advantage San Antonio.

Magic 105.3 is getting better but still seem to play way to many 80's to be a "Hot" AC. In that sense 106.9 the Lost Cause in Houston and Magic are closer in that vain. But yeah, Magic way better by leaps and bounds. Also Mix 96-5 is what a Hot AC should sound like, yeah they were trash not too long ago, but thanks to CBS, it's a winner now.

The AC Comparison is between Houston's #1 rated KODA and San Antonio's soft rock outlet KQXT. At least it was still soft rock last I heard 101.9. Has that changed too?

Sunny 99.1 still sounds like a well rounded AC, only KKMJ in Austin can sound better, as they sound like a true AC, IMHO.
Q 101.9 sounds like they are KTFM lite, well, the rhythmic AC incarnation...and they brand it as "Family First" ::)

AAA is not at 92.5 in SA. Its at 106.7. 92.5 in SA is now FM news talk
Yeah 92.5 The Patriot is FM talk, I wouldn't call it news. Why don't they just do WOAI-FM here? 92.5 might be a reference to 92.1 KNBT in New Braunfels which are AAA/Texas Country.

-Urban, Majic wins. San Antonio doesn't have an urban.

Agreed, and San Antonio should have AT LEAST a AM dedicated to the Format and the Black Community.

-Hip Hop, The Box and The Beat have one thing in common. No competition. Neither are very good because of it. I guess The Box has the advantage, but not by much.

Almost apples and oranges because of who each station targets. But yeah both can stand some competition, the same is true for the AC
stations.
