San Antonio Ratings are out!!

More San Antonians were starting to listen to La Kalle 95.1 than Mix 96.1 @2.8, Z106.7 @2.7 and 94.1 @2.8. La Kalle pop up to a 3.0 and makes it into the Top 10. Maybe Clear Channel will add some Hurban to Mix 96.1 and give it more of a Latin feel to it.

KTFM- What ashame to use Heritage call letters and not use them wisely. BMP should of kept the original format that KTFM had at 102.7. BTW, is it Jammin 94.1 or 94.1 KTFM or Jammin 94.1 KTFM or ahhh forget it...I don't think BMP knows either.

Cox- With the exception of KONO, all other stations took a good hit-downward. Let's see what effect Jack has on Magic 105.3 next month.

The Beat- All I have to say is WOW!! A whopping 8.7. The close station to The Beat is KAJA with a 6.0. Anyone reason why no one is competing with them?

I think ktfm needs to change there format a little, keep the jocks, make it more interesting, they should play a little more dance. I would hate to see 94.1 go, hope they can improve. I think Z or whatever they are, needs to change, I dont think no one listens to there out-dated playlist. Mix is acually getting better, Thats crazy on the beat, but damn there getting better, I wonder how well Jack will do? I hope the outlaw will start comming in soon! I think Digital needs to bring back dance, I dont know why they got rid of that.

**Correction**
KTFM is still in the Top 10 but but barely hangin. I think KTFM should add the freestyle and update their playlist with some of today's artist. Freestyle is something CBS Radio should take note of and add it to Jack to attract the Hispanic population.

If anyone makes any changes, it will be Clear Channel. Clear Channel is usually quick to respond with any changes in the market. I feel La Kalle left the market open for some to take over the Hurban format...only time will tell.

Jammin' KTFM is getting too talky. It's really noticeable now and doubly annoying with jockless Jack just down the dial from them. Plus their evening DJ sounds wayyy too much like Delilah. One Delilah is bad enough, we don't need two.

As others have predicted, Jack is going to throw a monkey wrench into the works by landing in the top 5. I wouldn't get too excited about the trends in this book.

One of the big stories of the SA book has to be the country race. Normally the two country stations are rated close to each other, but this book KAJA whipped KCYYs ass! Does anybody have any thoughts or theories on why this took place?

Yup, it's Randy, Clayton, Lou, Jamie and Crystal. That right there is an impressive line up for any radio station. The other reasons are they seem to be ahead of the game musically. Very progressive. A good mix of Nashville and Texas Country. Y100 is really sounding old and tired. Winston and Alyce have been washed up since they left KZEP. The last time I tried to listen to them Alyce was just witchy and mean. Not at all fun or entertaining. The other thing that KJ did was put the name of the city in their liners. It may sound insignificant but by calling themselves "San Antonio's" country station they are distinguishing themselves and allowing listeners to "know" which station they are listening to. For so long they sounded so much alike it didn't matter which one you were on. Now you can really tell the difference and it is swinging toward KJ97.

Country is also down right now. Total market share for the format is usually over a 10.5. Right now it is about a 9 with KJ owning 2/3s of it. Add the Outlaw into the pot and Clear Channel finally has a winner. Cox San Antonio is floundering right now. All of their properties need to be re-evaluated. Big changes need to occur on the programming side. The best thing that Cox could do is replace Y100 with a simulcast of KKYX. Classic country is an untapped niche in this market. Look at country legends in Houston. I really think that could work here.

Sorry for the long post, just my 2 cents.

I bet classic country would work damn near anywhere in Texas. Houston is the only bigger market that has a straight classic country and it's doin well. I'd open that playlist a lil bit though. A classic country audience would have the same buying power as an Oldies audience. We're still right in the middle of Texas.

Don't care too much about Mix or Z because I'm not a top 40 guy. Finally, some people on here are asking for a classic country station. Y100 can try what KVET in Austin does and play a mix of nashville and classic country, but I'd rather see a pure classic country station. In other words, simulcast KKYX on 100.3. Yes, there is a noticable difference in KAJA and KCYY, and I believe it mostly has to do with the mix of Texas country. Some of you mentioned La Kalle in the ratings, but that doesn't matter anymore because now it's recuerdo. I don't think that format is real popular here, it's more popular in places like New York and Miami. I have some die hard hip hop fans and they aren't into Reageeton. Personally, I think the whole hip hop format needs some change because for years its been the same tired out formula which is why I find hip hop boring. Not to mention the Screw scene is dying out. Ask anyone in Houston and they will tell you they're kinda tired of it too. Anyways, as for KTFM, it seems like their playlist got very small compared to when they started broadcasting. I hear the same old disco/r&b/diana ross songs and it's boring. The workout show they do is somethign to laugh at. The music sounds like the stuff the water aerobics lady plays at Spectrum. Probably the only station I'm enjoying right now is The Outlaw (when I can get in clear!!!) and Jack FM, even though I've heard MMMMMMMMBop for the third time on there since it began. Still can't help but laugh.

One more thing, anyone knows about the ratings for our rock stations KZEP and KISS? Would an alternative format like 101x and 94.5 The Buzz work here? Been hoping for that to happen here in SA since 1994.

I would pay close attention to the HD2 formats that are due here this summer. That's the best hope for alternative.

You mentioned the Outlaw. I must say that after I heard Stevie Ray and ZZ top on there today I'm hooked! This is a damn good station. They should move it to 96.1. Please?

There is no Recuerdo format in either NY or Miami. NY only has an AC, a salsa and a reggaetón format on FM. Miami has a 60's oldies station in Spanish.

Recuerdo is an Adult Hits station, and plays little 60's oldies. It is mostly 70's to 90's. And it is 100% Mexican targeted.

Recuerdo in Phoenix shot to #1 in the market in December, 60 days after its debut. In Dallas, the same format is #2 general market.

Right on! 96.1 needs to go. Yeah that's good stuff they play on The Outlaw. Not to mention that they also play David Allan Coe, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson. We definently need some GOOD country music on FM in SA, especially classic country.
