Why is KBBT number one when they sound just like KTFM? Party 97.7 is sounding more mainstream pop now.

Only reason I can think of is KBBT has the better signal. Plus they don't speed up their music... And they have a better morning show.

With KTFM, Mix, The Beat, and Party playing almost the same exact music, you have to look at other factors like signal strength, jocks, imaging, and overall sound of the station for ratings.

The Beat and Mix both have the best signals in town and a better overall sound. I can pick up some static in spots with KTFM driving through town, and of course Party is a rimshot station.

The Beat is by far the most interactive CHR in town with upbeat and highly energetic on air personalities. Mix 96.1 has the larger than life classic CHR imaging. KTFM is local, but all their jocks still sound voice tracked and there is very limited on air interaction between the DJ and the listeners. You can't develop a rapport with liners. KTFM imaging is nice, but definitely not the over-the-top imaging you'd expect from a CHR.

I really don't expect any changes in the ratings down the road with our CHRs based on these factors. I can only suggest that if KTFM or Party wishes to succeed in the market, they change one thing they can control -- their overall on air presentation. Differentiate by playing songs you won't hear on Mix or The Beat that test well in the SA market and you'll be able to develop a stronger following.

No one listens to KEDA?

Guess not. That station has a horrible signal anyway. People are probably gonna start listening to K272EK 102.3 now.. They play the same format as KEDA, and FM is lots better then AM.

Keep in mind, the ratings that are available to the public are 6+ numbers. But as you stated anthonydt06, don't expect much to change from the big 3 CHRs.

On the other hand, I see one of two things happening to Party, either it goes full Dance(unlikely) or 97.7 flips to another format.

Any idea what format that'll be?

I don't think any format flips will happen anytime soon.. maybe a few months down the road. Even if a station does flip, viable format options remain limited.

Hot AC didn't work, neither did low budget syndicated FM Talk. Modern/Active Rock and Alternative is suffering nationally. We're saturated with classic hits, classic rock, and country. I could see Rhythmic AC or another dance oriented format returning to SA. Oddly enough, KTFM performed best as a Rhythmic AC if I recall.

I don't expect much investment going into 97.7 mainly because the signal is not city grade.

Only thing really cool about Party 97.7 is the mix shows. It's not that cool how they don't take requests, or have any on-air talent. I bet the mixes are all pre-recorded.
