San Antonio's unbuilt LPFMs

Can anyone give any status updates on any of the new LPFMs that are left and not on yet? It looks like 96.5, 96.7, 97.9, 99.1, 99.9, and the two on 101.5 expire later this year and I haven't heard anything from any of them except 99.1, which is on but with no license to cover filed.

96.7 expires at the end of July, so I think it should be worked on first if any engineers/tower people are reading this and looking for work.

We've got a couple over here in the same predicament, Mouse. I've personally got my eyeballs on one in particular, KRUT-LP. Licensed to operate from behind an Oh, oh oh O'Reilly just down N. Shepherd from me. It expires in July. Likely Templo de Dios will file for an extension, but who's to say? They may send someone up that little cell tower tomorrow and start regularly scheduled programming the next. Not much we can do, but wait and see. Until paperwork hits Washington, we commoners have no way of knowing.

There are so many things to consider with a LPFM. If your board does not implode and your original tower site is still available and at the initial estimated rental price, you're good. For example, one operator jumped through hoops for a year to go on a city water tower. The last hurdle was the Parks Committee, a non-elected board overseeing parks, the precise location of the water tower. They would not allow anything to be put in the park and state, if not federal law prevent a box inside the water tower fencing. I have talked to folks that had all their ducks in a row, equipment ordered including all the utilities only to have 3/4 of the board resign at that point. Then there are those who lose interest that make up boards. They don't get the point you can't generally be on the air in a week. That sort tends to spread ill will that you might be a con since nothing is happening. The list goes on. The real truth is it is never easy and almost never quick. Many LPFMs will be days away from their extension expiring before they can get going.

Also, a station can operate on a Construction Permit for an extended length of time so long as they apply and obtain the license to cover in time. The wisest is to apply as soon as you possibly can since a license is seen as more permanent.
