I was living in San Diego the very day FM 94/9 came on the air. I considered it a breath of fresh air. 91X at the time was a little too hard for my tastes. I do believe that 94/9 made 91X sound better.
San Diego used to have an alt-rock station called 92.5 the Flash. 94/9 patterns themselves after the Flash. Mike Halloran of 94/9 used to work for the Flash. When Clear Channel took 92.5 under its wings, they ditched the format so as not to compete with in-house 91X.<P ID="signature">______________
