San Diego Am Radio

Why aren't there any local talk shows or news on San Diego Radio? You can only hear local news on radio in the morning. WGN AM, KMOX AM, KGO AM KCBS AM, AND KFI are mostly local. And KMOX is #21 in the radio markets. Why is San Diego mostly syndicated?

because a syndicated show doesn't require benefits, nor an expensive salary. Ten years ago KFMB-AM had local programming morning, noon, and night -- and all night as well. Same with KSDO-AM. San Diego is a cost center for the corporate entities and outside of some drive time -- the news is "imported" from la LA.

600 KOGO is local talk radio, 5AM - 9AM, and then at 6PM -8PM or 9PM they go local again. The economy in the radio sector isn't much good revenue for local talk shows here.

What about Roger Hedgecock? I thought he's live/local.

Roger has been syndicated nationwide for .... coming up three years, I believe. His show, while based at KOGO, is heard on over 100 stations and XM Satellite daily. Roger is very active on the talk front nationally.

So, yes, he is live, but not as local as he was. 8)

Speaking of Roger, he is on KDOX 102.3 FM & 1280 AM here in Las Vegas. I used to live in San Diego and remember when he was on KSDO. He has a great show and I listen every afternoon from 3-6 PM.
