San Diego HDRadio

HDRadio users, whadda ya think?

KPBS' HD2 music is nice ....
Star 94.1's alternative music is good
KGB's relay of DSC all day is a bit too much
US 95.7's second country channel doesn't offer any thing different
Rock 105.3's second active channel is OK
KSON's analog and HDRadio are not in sync; no HD-2 yet

107.1 offers Espanol programming.
107.9 is not constant.

AM:

KOGO sounds good
I can also get:
KLAC, KNX, KABC, 740/KBRIGHT

Chris,
Please try out KSON again. I think you will find the alignment to be on the order of a few micro-seconds.
In fact, as perfect as it gets...Had to get the folks at the traffice service used to calling in on an auto-coupler which is fed pre-delay.
Thanks,
Eric Schecter

confirmed. Much better! KSON-FM is good along the coast in North County in HDRadio.

This must have happened in the last week. :)

Thanks for the reception report, Chris. I gotta work on getting an HD radio into the station vehicle. Either that, or drive around with an inverter and a radio on the seat...not too cool.

Not an endorsement, but I found the JVC model for about $140. HDR1. It's not perfect, however it does get HD and the multicast stations. I was in la LA, and one station has HD-3.

AM radio at sunrise is interesting. I can get KXNT/KCBS, and KBFK in HDRadio.

Any plans on adding the service to 92.1?

Well, we've certainly talked about just that. I truly wonder how much 5.6W...yes watts..of digital will cover.
KSOQ is 560 w ERP and you only get 1% digital. So the fact that you get KSON up north by the coast with a whopping 500 w of digital says something about its robust nature!

92.1 has a good footprint in North County, especially in Escondido. That's a hole there for most San Diego stations because of terrian. KSOQ is in a perfect location. Drive the 78 and near Cal State to Escondido the only clear FM is 92.1, 102.1 and 107.1. 94.1 in it's 100kw erp doesn't get through Mount Whitney (the peak near Cal State).

It would be impressive, however it's expensive for the 10 people who have HDRadios up here.
