San Diego Here Come The "OLDIES"

New Oldies Station In San Diego?
Rumors flying rampant around SAN DIEGO that BROADCAST COMPANY OF THE AMERICAS will break up its "DOUBLE-X" Sports simulcast, retaining Sports programming on XEPRS-A (1090) and flipping XHBCE (105.7) to Oldies. PADRES play-by-play is expected to continue on both frequencies.

Will there be live personalities? Who will they be? Or just more Voice Tracking?

the real Domino Rippey

Domino Rippey, who worked in Minneapolis in the 80's (WCCO-FM and KDWB) passed away a few years ago. (Not sure if he had worked at KCBQ, but he definitely had the pipes!)

Oh, a rumor?
FOR THE LOVE OF IT, COULD WE PLEASE STOP WITH THE OLDIES RUMOR ALREADY????? How 'bout you come back when its not just a rumor? In the case of this one, we've heard it already. Also, just like the last two, this one chose to keep the fact that it was a rumor hidden by keeping it out of the subject.

Well gee golly gorsh, thanks for wasting our time!

Stay Tuned!

I thought they were using 105.7 to fill in east county coverage because 1090 doesnt work over that way. If so do they have plans to cover that area with something else instead?

I heard that San Diego Police radio is going to switch to oldies, bringing back Bill Kolender to do mornings with Ron Reina doing sports on the half-hour.

All Access reported the rumor about XX Sports 105.7 going oldies but keeping the Padres simulcast with its AM 1090.

Yeah, but it's only going to be on their HD-2 channel...

I'd forgotten he died in 2004. He and then police chief Kolender and the late Perry Allen were part of a close quartet of drinking buddies back in the late 70's, early 80's (the fourth was an Episcopal priest). Ron spent the last six years of his career as the sheriff's spokesman.

The fourth was a guy whose nickname is "Friar John."

Thanks - I'd been thinking "Father John" but that didn't sound right. Was he really a preacher: I seem to recall that he was.

Ahhh found him: John Sorenson, who was once chaplain for the San Diego State football team. http://www.friarjohn.com/
