AP) SAN DIEGO, Calif. A San Diego TV reporter was attacked by a couple he was investigating, and was hospitalized, officials said Wednesday.

Fox 6 News in San Diego said investigative journalist John Mattes suffered cracked ribs, bite wounds and cuts to his face during Tuesday's incident which was captured on video and ended with two arrests.

Mattes was working on a story about alleged real estate fraudster Sam Suleiman. Mattes and cameraman Dennis Waldrop were interviewing a man outside a house in San Diego's La Jolla neighborhood when, alerted to the crew's presence by an associate, Sulieman's wife Rosa Baraza arrived.

Fox 6 said Mattes had uncovered an elaborate scam allegedly carried out by Suleiman in which he stole identities so he could buy houses and then rent them to others.

In video footage, Baraza is seen screaming and swearing at Mattes and Waldrop. She sprays a bottle of water at the pair and strikes Mattes in the face with the plastic container.

Suleiman was then seen stepping out of a car and walking up to Mattes. Suleiman was filmed punching Mattes in the face and head, before putting him in a head lock.

The man who was about to be interviewed can be seen intervening and trying to pull Suleiman off Mattes. The three fall to the ground where Suleiman continues to kick Mattes.

The above was an AP article I found. Here's the link: http://wcbstv.com/topstories/topstories_story_251123905.html

Reporting can be a dangerous job. I'm glad that guy is ok.

...that clip has been all over MSNBC for the last couple of days; Olbermann treated it seriously, while Tucker Carlson laughed about it (probably out of ongoing disgust at Fox, who posted his home phone number on their web site after he criticised them about some story or other three years ago)...

Is the XETV-TV reporter going to sue the couple who assaulted him? I hope he does!
