I gotta tell you - it sounds great to hear a CHR in Frisco playing Linkin Park's "New Divide".
Movin 99.7 has shifted from AC to CHR/Pop in the past few months. It's a current-based Rhythmic leaning CHR, similar to 97.1 Amp Radio and 98.5 KLUC Las Vegas. In the just released August ratings the station managed to move up both in the San Francisco and San Jose ratings.
Well now a second CHR, a pure CHR/Pop station comes to San Francisco - 92.7 REV The Revolution. The station's launched at 9 PM with 10,000 songs in a row and these are the first records played:
Kelly Clarkson "Walk Away"
Pink "Get The Party Started"
Livvi Franc "Now I'm That Bitch"
Flo-Rida "Be On You"
Linkin Park "New Divide"
Kerri Hilson "Knock You Down"
Michael Franti & Spearhead "Say Hey"
Crazy Town "Butterfly"
Signal-wise KMVQ clearly has the advantage, but just the fact that there are two CHR/Pop outlets in a market where it had been missing for so long is good news for the format.
The last time San Francisco had two CHR/Pop stations was around 1987 when 106 KMEL was up against Live 105. Ultimately KMEL leaned more and more Dance (following the huge success of L.A.'s Power 106) and then Rhythmic hits while Live 105 evolved into a Modern Rock outlet.
Here's hoping both stations do well
