San Francisco Ratings for August 2012

KMEL is Number 1 in the San Francisco market at a 5.2

Tied with The. Sports. Leader -- see what happens when the Giants start winning?

Interesting leap -- 2.2 to 2.9 -- for KFOG. Did the older demo suddenly start listening again? I figured the road back from the "Twitch" debacle would be a longer, slower one. Meanwhile Alice continues to slide and Live 105 takes a surprising drop.

Big jumps like KFOG's are often temporary. For a recent example of the PPM yo-yo factor, check out KMEL's last two months (6.3-5.2). KFOG's latest monthly basically brings them back to the range they usually inhabit which is the mid-to-high 2's. What's more important in measuring their health is their 25-54 ranking. Long climbs like the one seen on KNBR are usually tied to seasonal sports (SF Giants). The steady growth of KIOI likely shows the benefit of an improved morning show (currently #1 25-54) which, given their relative newness in the market, seems to have nailed a couple favorable meters. What's more telling in this recent survey is the steady share decline of KYLD which is below a 4 share again this month even though it usually has the biggest cume in the market. No doubt KMVQ's powerful performance is a factor here. What used to be a tenth of a share difference between the two is now almost a full share gap. And then there's the continued disappointing numbers put up at KSAN.

Has Cumulus thought of Flipping KSAN-FM for KNBR-FM? I know I heard of talks of a KGO-FM before but I'm not sure how they will do this. I do know KSFO-AM and KSAN-FM are the lowest performing stations for Cumulus SFO.

kksf is beating ksfo and not far behind kgo. I bet they over take kgo next year - which is not saying much I guess

Actually, the lowest rated Cumulus station is KTKT, or "KNBR 1050" as it's now branded. It's still listed on that ratings report as owned by Susquehanna, but I believe that's an error.

There were never "talks" of a KGO-FM, just speculation on this board and other places. The question is - would Cumulus make higher revenues with a KNBR simulcast, or will it make more leaving things as they are? Though KSAN may currently have poor ratings, Cumulus may still make more keeping the signals separate.

And KNBR is riding high in the ratings now, so why consider a simulcast until and unless ratings for 680 AM start to decline?

I think you meant 'KTCT' as KTKT calls are still in use by a Tucson AM.

Picky, picky, picky. ;D Yes - I remembered it used to be "The Ticket 1050" and took a guess on the calls.

Also not to be confused with KTCC (KS), KTCK (TX), KTKC (LA), or KCKT (TX).

Gosh and golly, radio is so confusing. How does anyone keep this all straight?

KTKT used to brand "Radio Free Tucson" and "Color Radio 99". As it is now Spanish sports I have no idea what the brand is ("Mas Futbol" perhaps?). ;D

Anybody have 18-34 or 25-54 shares?

Subscribers who have the discreet demo and daypart numbers are not allowed to reveal the data other than in sales presentations and for internal use. There are now considerable sanctions for those who distribute the data.

AllAccess sometimes has market wrapups without the actual shares, but with the demo ranks.
