Steve Masters was wandering around BFD yesterday interviewing people and the number of people AT A LIVE 105 EVENT who didn't know that Live 105 was sponsoring the show (!), or who didn't even know there was a station called Live 105 (!!) was just mind-blowing.

Steve Masters...is he collecting Social Security yet?

It's frightening that time moves on, but it does. We try to hang onto it, but it slips away. As adults we're doing things that commercial broadcasters don't like: we're sticking to brands we like, and we're content with the purchases we made 5 and 10 years ago. I have a 19 year old car. I'm definitely not a target for Toyota, Lexus, or Subaru. I've found my buds, but they don't drink Budweiser and won't switch to it even if buxom blondes lay cans across their boobs.

I don't know his age, but his bio mentions that he attended college in 82-83 - so that probably puts him in his early 50s - a good decade or more younger than Don Bleu.

Yeah, I was just joking there. I'd assume that Steve Masters is around 50 to 52. No problem with that. I'm just remarking on the idea that KITS is representing anything that might be considered new or cutting edge. A modern rock format would be the equivalent of an oldies format for Gen-X. No problem with that, either; just tell it like it is.

" And last I heard in the halls of CBS SF, Live 105 is definitely treated as the uncool aged-out cousin."

That has to be partly because so much of their playlist is from the 90s. They might as well try playing more new music, there is so much indie out there. Granted it's not that popular, but it might attract a younger crowd. Granted, they did chuck most of the 90s for a few months in 2012 to focus on newer music, but then they only played about the same 12 new songs over and over again.

So true. I would suggest that the Live 105 PD & MD check out Alt Nation on SiriusXM. Their playlist is nearly exclusively new, and it's a wonderful collection of indie and quality new rock.
