The Los Angeles area has a similar number of PBS stations:
KVCR-24 San Bernardino/Riverside
KCET-28 Los Angeles
KOCE-50 Huntington Beach
KLCS-58 Los Angeles

New York area:
WNET-13 Newark/New York City
WLIW-21 Riverhead, Long Island
WEDW-49 Bridgeport, CT
plus four stations of the New Jersey Network

KTLN/68 comes in pretty strong in Stockton

> KTLN 68 TLN ???? (North Bay Only)
Does anyone know where the transmitter of KTLN is ? It comes in pretty good here in the Central Valley City of Stockton.

Get rid of stations being allowed to run infomercials or broker out time and I bet a lot of the Us would go dark. (Nationwide ... and so would 90% of the LPTVs.)

I suspect all those stations, plus their digital second channels, is the reason there is only one LPTV operating in the Bay Area (KMMC-LP/40).
______________

There is also WNYE-25, a low-budget PBS-type station owned by NYC

Do the PBS stations show the same programs?

Here in San Diego they often pre-empt national programming for their smug locally-produced shows. There was talk at some point that KCTS from LA would start to be offered down here on cable, as their schedule varies from KPBS. You should have heard the rucus snortin' hissy-fit KPBS put on with that suggestion.

I resisted listing WNYE, as it is doing less and less "PBS" style programming and airing more independent productions and NYC-produced programs. But, by license alone, it counts.

In San Francisco and the Bay Area, KQED is the first, largest and primary PBS station, airing the national PBS schedule pretty much in pattern with the rest of the country. They also produce much more local programming than the other PBS stations.
KCSM-DT airs a ton of true instructional programs, along with time-shifted PBS fare (often delayed by a week). It is also digital-only, having lost the transmitter site for analog channel 60 on Mt. San Bruno a while back.
KRCB in the North Bay is the smallest of the stations, and only recently began offering 24 hour broadcasts. It also airs PBS, a little behind the rest of the network.
Eventually, they all show the same stuff.

Obviously sd meant KCET. KCTS is Seattle's PBS station.

I agree with you. I just watch about five stations. Dishnetwork doesn't carry channels 38, 64, 65.

What about KTEH in San Jose?

> KKPX 65 ITV Mt. Loma Peroma
> KFSF 66 TF Mt. Sutro

Given that these two stations overlap into San Francisco, one has wonder whether these stations should simulcast or move to different channels.

I think there's a couple of other LPTVs in the Bay Area, perhaps not right in the metro of SF:

1)KFTL-CA on 28. It's a mix of religous, home shopping, and ethnic. When Family sold UHF 64 to Telefutura, they moved their programming to this station. Their signal does reach the city/SF. (I guess if you really want to get picky, this station is not a LPTV station, but a Class-A...)

2)I think there's a LPTV/Class A in San Jose on Ch. 22; they're doing Spanish Religion....

Will it matter after the digital transition is completed?
______________
