San Jose Radio

It seems with the format flip of Channel 104.9, their aren't whole lot of English Commerical radio stations in the SJO area. Only KBAY, KRTY, KUFX, and KEZR. I wont count KFFG becuase they simucast 104.5 which isn't necessary for South Bay listeners. Now only 4 English Radio station left for South Bay calls it their owned.

I'm with you on this e-dawg... I lived in the in 20 years (left in 1996) and so much has changed in the past 9-10 years.

Reflecting back on San Jose in 1996.

KEZR 106.5 (Mix 106.5)
KBAY 100.3
KOME 98.5 (might have been gone in 96)
KRTY 95.3
KUFX 94.5 (KFOX)
KSJO 92.3
KARA 105.7

Feel free to correct me if I have dates incorrect.

The bottom line... Radio figured out the target demographic in San Jose, plain and simple. <Insert Satellite radio comment here>

Random thought, anybody remember the KAT in Los Gatos?<P ID="signature">______________

Yes, from growing up in the bay area, KATD 95.3 in Los Gatos was quite the popular station back in the late 80's/early 90's. Also, Hot 97.7 was a good station. I figured it was just a matter of time before the plug was pulled on the KCNL format. To me, it always seemed a little scattered in it's broadcasting. I still would have liked to see some sort of CHR format return to the airwaves in the south bay. KCNL had a good signal for it as well.

Funny how CC keeps on Wild 94.9 as a "San Jose" radio station, but the signal isn't that great, and the station itself, isn't even in San Jose... seems it would be pretty easy to take them out with locality if a new Rhythmic CHR signed on in San Jose.

These changes almost forces me over to satellite radio. I have 12 FM settings on my car radio, it is getting harder and harder to fill 'em up!

Oh, they've struck again! The cast of characters leading CC SF are still
playing CYA to the tune of the bottom line. This move serves no one in the Bay Area except those in management at ClearChannel...OH yeah, and Live 105!

I used to love radio. But, these days, it's like waking up next to Faye Dunaway in 'Barfly'...

Happy New Year anyway...

I agree, it gets into San Jose pretty solid. Much better than when Wild was on 107.7.

In response to something else posted on this thread, why would CC put a rhythmic CHR on 104.9 that targets San Jose? That would be suicide for 94.9, which currently does well in the South Bay.<P ID="signature">______________

Re: San Jose Radio/RadioEnginerd

Well said Ray/RadioEnginerd! How is Vegas? Still at ViaWHO?

Coming from someone who left San Jose to move to Vegas, Houston, Cincy, and now back in Milpitas, I have to say radio for english people sucks! There truely is no competition out here in the bay area. All we really have now is KRTY, KBAY, KEZR and various stations from SF to listen to in english if they can reach the south bay. For now, I'll stick to satelite radio as my music entertainment.

As for your comment on KATD the Kat, To bad they left to become KRTY. That truely wa a innovative station ahead of its time. Had they had a stronger signal, maybe they would've last.

Sorry G.B. I think you may have me mistaken with someone else. My name is not Ray and I'm currently working in Sacramento.

Take Care,
