Last year, the announcement was made that longtime WFMY-TV 2 Newswoman Sandra Hughes would be retiring around the first of this year. Has she decided not to retire from WFMY? She has ben a fixture at the CBS-TV station since 1972. Alot of folks around here have grown upwith her. WFMY-TV 2 sems to operating on a "bare bones" news staff anyway. They now only have a Solo anchor weknights doing te news, nd most nights the ain achor is also doing sports!!!!! I have been around a long time, and haven`t see a main anchor doing sports since the 1960`s. They seem to have let most of their staff go!!! Most of the broadcasts only have 2 people at the desk-Main Anchor and the Weatherman! Can WFNY afford to lose Sandra Hughes at this point? WXII-TV 12 now is airing commericals about how they are the "ne" News leader in the Piedmont! What the hell is going on at CBS2?????

Let's admit, one day every television station who has a news operation will be making major cutbacks in markets large and small, WWAY-TV in Wilmington cut out weekend news awhile back, laid off a main anchor, and then turn around and hire
another anchor, probably for less money!, the internet no doubt is having a big impact on viewership because people can
choose the stories they want to see, not the stations.

Goodtime Oldies. I thought you said you were new to this area??? How do you know how long Sandra has been @ 2 I thought you were in Atlanta?? Something's not right here???

Or are you TOM??

To Big Ape, I lived as a child here back in the early 1970`s-late 1970`s before moving to South Carolina. I remember Sandra at TV 2, along with "Shock Theater" and "Dialing For Dollars" on Channel 2. I moved back last year here after an abscence of over 30 years.... And no sir, I am not "Tom". I have never even met him. I assume you are referring to the guy who was programming your Majic 94.1. I did send him e-mails from time to time, making programming suggestions. He wrote back a few times, but was very vague. In my own personal opinion, I think that he was a real dumb a%s for playing so many 1980`s songs on Majic. They did cool it somewhat on the 1980`s late last year. Overall, I did enjoy Majic 94, and really miss it. I don`t how ever have a high opinion of Tom Collins, just by some of his programming selections and his vague e-mails. Like I said before, I have never met the man. Now, can we get back to talking about TV 2? I also remember "The Old Rebel" Show in the mornings....

I will say that I have seem many really small town TV stations that have alot more folks working as anchors and reporters than WFMY does. So sad, that the news staff there seems to get thinner every month.... They seem to pur alot of money into the News Set and Graphics. Weatherman Eric Chilton (a good guy) was bragging tonight on air about their new weather graphics. Perhaps, the only bright spot right now at WFMY with all of the staff cuts.... I bet they do BEG Sandra Hughes to stay around a few more years. WXII-TV 12 is INCREASING their News and staff and has taken the ratings edge away from WFMY 9and they are showing NBC programming)!!!!!!!!!!!

She decided to stick around because WFMY is going OLDIES!

Well *I* heard Sandra is holding off on retirement until the next OLDIES station launches in the Triad. She's planning on hosting a local version of SOLID GOLD OLDIES, evenings 7pm to midnight. Book it. It's happening!

When she breaks the story about the format switch, that will seal her legacy as a local anchor on WFMY.
People will forget Roy Ackland ever existed.

When do you think channel 2 will change formats? This is great news. I sure hope they play a lot of the music from the sixties. Do you think they can get the staff from the old 94.1 oldies station or do you think they're holding out for Gig Hilton and Wilbur to call them back? Will Max McGann do mornings? And will the current news 2 news staff stay on board to do news? And then there's Eric Chilton, Ed Matthews and the blond, will they do the weather? Maybe the blond will be Max's foil on the morning show. I bet channel 48 will pick up the CBS programming when the format is changed. I had wondered why Sandra Hughes was still there and didn't realize it was because of the format change.

Mornings: Mike Fenley
Middays: Classic Jack Armstrong tapes (with the Gorilla)
Afternoons: Rod Davis (stealing him from WMAG...sssshhhhh)
Nights: Classic Pat Patterson tapes
Overnights: Ted "The Bear" Richardson

This is gonna be great!
WFMY's signal is gonna allow them to blow the historical once-former legendary video-station WLXI's legacy outta da water! On low power at channel 61, they were hamstrung by technology.
This will be the greatest oldies station EVER [though there was a gas station once where I heard some doowop that kinda set my feet a shufflin].

Lee Kinard will be the station voice
Bill Kopald will do a Sunday beach show
Sandra will be Fenley's sidekick (I hear they're giving him $200k/yr)

Ha...Ha! Very not funny! By the way, it is Ted "The Bear" Richards (NOT RICHARDSON). Funny, how alot ofthe so-called "experts here don`t even know the right names of the people they are talking about!!!!!

i'd sure love to hear "the blooper" from ted "the bear" richards from WAPE.

anybody got it? i've googled but not found it.

I grew up watching Captain Kangaroo and The Old Rebel.

I also remember Lee Kinard doing WEATHER.

I also remember clouds and the Gulf logo before sports.

Not hardly. I still have a converter box hooked up to Wall-E devoted entirely to Roy. And if it dosen't work, there's always online. This time of year, occasionally I'm not at home and a converter box won't let me choose the channel to record ... wait, no, the problem with that TV is the VCR is broken. Doesn't matter anyway because the signal sometimes gets messed up.
