Sandusky doesn't take over

Another big piece of this story is how many of these kids kept quiet for so long. Guess their mommas never taught them that they don't have to keep secrets, and they don't have to "be nice" to the friendly man, no matter the tactics he might use to harass, ridicule or otherwise make you shut up and go away or buckle.

When a young, impressionable mind is assaulted and bullied into keeping silent, and the "friendly man" was one of the most revered men to have come from State College, and the entire campus community group-think lets Sandusky and Paterno be demi-gods... this is going to happen.

It's not the parents fault entirely. A whole lot of people let these children down.

Maybe the national discussion is positive, but I dial flip whenever I hear the Penn Pervert story.

We're in central Pennsylvania -- Penn State country -- so our answer is obviously going to be tainted. But this story lights up our phones every time we do it. The key for us has been pushing the subject matter forward, being careful when screening calls that the show doesn't just turn into one giant echo chamber since a lot of folks want to call in and say the same thing. Even after we weed them out though, there's plenty of good material from the other callers.

This will be a topic for years in our region -- but again, I realize that Penn State is not exactly everyone's bread and butter.
