Sandusky On The MOVE

This Board cracks me up. For months people post about how Sandusky has had troubles. KLSY is dying, KIXI is over, KWJZ is boring blah blah blah. So they do something about it. KLSY makes a brilliant switch to a format that is not currently in the market and is set to shred the upper end of KUBE and KBKS and the bottom end of JACK and KPLZ. KIXI goes with the top MOL format in the business with the best national staff in the business and they shakeup mornings at KWJZ. Now everyone on this board blasts them for the very changes everyone wanted to see.Gone are the PD's that failed, and the GM is making aggressive moves. This is radio at its best. Screw the research, go with gut and WIN! For my money MOVIN will be the end of KBKS, KPLZ and JACK. If JACK follows the trend in most markets it will make one last gasp this Spring and then die.MOVIN is unique, KIXI needed a wake up call as did KRWM. KWJZ mornings were the worst rated shift on the station. I say Kudo's for making moves to win. Some other stations might want to pay attention.

Movin is way too similar to other tried-and-failed stations (the original KBKS; KBTB; et al). Then again, they have nowhere to go but up.KIXI ditched the local Seattle presentation for hum-drum national satellite. Could drop below Movin in the ratings.Too early to tell if KWJZ is headed in the right direction, but we'll see. Take it from you? Something tells me people here will be making up their own minds.

I like the new KIXI. I think KQMV will do only minor damage in the market and will then turn into another fad format next year or 2008, and KWJZ and KRWM will stay the same for a long time.KKNW is a waste of channel space. That is sad. Anything that station does could be streamed over the internet and probably get a larger audience.

Screw the research
While I agree with the gist of your post, you lost your credibility here. Sandusky did extensive research before launching Movin'. In fact, all three of their FMs have just been through a very thorough set of research studies by one of the leading firms in the business and--as I've posted elsewhere on this board--have completed music tests as well.

Re: Sandusky

New people - New changes Live with it now - it's all over soon anyway

First of all guys, I DON'T CARE about KQMV. They don't exist in my universe. So please don't get excited that I am a competitor that smells blood, I just smell a dud.Corporations spend millions every year on research, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.It ain't a sure thang.

This pretty much convinces me that this dude is a troll.Factually inaccurate, and seeks to incite ire.

While I don't agree with the post, Takeitfromme does have a point. Many on this board are quick to want change and then are critical of the change when it happens. KLSY needed to do something, whether this was the right thing remains to be seen. KIXI did not bill a lot of money, but I guarantee they will bill less as a syndicated format. KWJZ mornings did under-perform. I would argue that KRWM was well-programmed and that their PD was not a "loser." I am surprised he was fired. The other moves make some sense. Takeitfromme may lose style points, but his message has some merit. Let's wait and see. Four books will tell the story for KLSY, KIXI, KWJZ and now KRWM without it's PD. I would disagree that Ichabod and Kent and Alan are ready for retirement. KMPS is under attack from WOLF and KPLZ from JACK. Let's see what happens when the dust finally settles in six to nine months.

I like the new KIXI!I think KQMV will be a new fad format in a year or so. (Cant help predicting)Radio thinks it does everything so well today that they should have an Oscar just for existing. Im in the department that says its never been worse. So critique is impossible to avoid!

He was not fired, He stepped out for personal reasons and will be leaving within the month. Terrible loss for the station though, he was great for that station. Best of luck with whatever he is off to do next.

Getting a VP job at Harker Research, is considered 'personal reasons?'Dude, at least know a little about what you're trying to sell.

Actually, he does know more than a little. Gary's wife wanted to return to the East Coast and he has a brother who lives in the Raleigh-Durham area, where Harker is based.
