After having the sangean HD-1 Tuner I'm beginning to have problems with it. I had it a little over a year now. It is starting to lock up and sometimes the HD stations are mute. Other times the HD signal won't be strong, then I turn it off and turn it back on it comes on about 60db. I noticed the other day when I turned it off the clock was stuck. I had to un plug it and plug it back in to make it work again. I'll just use my FM tuner on my system now its a lot more sensitive. Even with a dipole I can pick up FM stereo 60 miles to San antonio.

Sangean HD-1 problems

Have you tried blowing the dust out of the tuning capacitor? 
Then reseat all the tubes.... But seriously this sounds like a classic modern design/manufacturing issue.
Most likely a poor connection at a plug or connector of a circuit board.
Re-establishment of continuity often happens at power-on due to current surge.
You could try reseating every connector, plug and/or chips in sockets if there are any.
The "serviceman's drop", a calibrated shock , dropping the item from a height (generally small) sometimes cures such a problem.
Just because it's new doesn't mean it won't respond just like an old tube TV, which would sometimes staighten out when you'd whack it.

Or try re-flowing the solder. The last in a very long list of BAD ideas from Europe is lead (Pb) free solder. The compounds they use now are just not as reliable as good old tin / lead. I can usually revive gear by reflowing / supplementing the soldering joints.
Or maybe contact Sangean for a firmwear update. I have a HD-1 & and an HD-1X and both perform flawlessly.

I meant to reply a couple of weeks ago, but had computer problems...
My HDT-1X (is that the right model number for the hi-fi component version) had some funny reception problems a few months ago. There was a small PWB in the rear panel, that contains the antenna connectors, as well as what looks like the RF amp transistor and some bandpass filtering components.
The connectors had worked loose (solder joints) from too much use (Yes, I carry it around a lot, and connect/re-connect antennas), and it appears that the solder joints on some of those other (surface mount) components may have gone bad, too. After I re-soldered everything on the board it worked fine again.
