Sanibel License?

Does anyone know if Sanibel Island has any station licensed directly to it??

98.5 was originally a Sanibel license before it actually went on the air. I believe the tower was supposed to have been on the island itself.

I remember talking to the person that had the CP for 98.5...She told me there was an Eagle's nest on the proposed TX site that was keeping it from being built (Sanibel, environmental concerns, hello). Think I did a coordinate search and the tower would've been on Tarpon Bay Rd. For whatever reason, when 98.5 finally signed on, the COL was San Carlos Park.

The new 93.7 will be licensed to Sanibel, but the actual TX will not physically be on Sanibel.

BIG ARTS of Sanibel had applied for an LPFM on 97.1 in Sanibel in the early stages of LPFM applications...Anyone with half a brain could tell you why that frequency would not fly...

This is pushing the envelope on the question but there is a TIS application (not heard last fall when in the area though):

1680 (MIS) WQBV597 City of Sanibel; the News-Press reported on September 15, 2008 that "They're [Sanibel] adding a radio frequency, 1680 AM, that will broadcast important information to Sanibel residents during an emergency." However, not hear in mid-September, 2008 while the editor was on the island. Back in December, 2004, this appeared on FCC dB as pending. January, 2005: listed as 800 Dullop Road, at the Sanibel Causeway Weigh Station.

I did actually hear a loop on 1680 saying "this is the City of Sanibel, testing on 1680 AM", this Summer.
