Santa Fe: EMF gets KBAC/KSFQ

How sad is this? In one of the best markets for what they do, the talented staff at KBAC will be out of work in exchange for satellite fed tunes from California.

Agreed. It is quite sad. Even if KBAC generated a few grumbles among those in Santa Fe (I heard, "You don't work for Clear Channel, do you? They ruined our station!", an incredible amount of times when I visited Santa Fe a couple of years ago after some found I worked in radio) for becoming too corporate under Clear Channel, it was still one of the best small market stations around. It seems like a lot of good stations have gotten gobbled up by EMF to become little more than faceless full-power translators for KLOV. KLRQ in Clinton, MO, another unique small town station, KOKF in Oklahoma City, one of the first pure Christian rock stations in America, and WHTS in the Quad Cities, a well-respected and highly rated CHR, have succumbed to EMF, too. Hopefully, someone else will pick up the KBAC format. I'm not sure I have high hopes of this since I can't think of many options other than AGM.

That is very bad news, because KBAC will no doubt get even worse. When Clear Channell bought KBAC it went from innovative and quirky to downright geriatric. This latest move should make it hard to even listen to. But the big profiteer of this canned music policy are the people who sells iPods.

Just so you know (as per the FCC application and past history), EMF will convert both stations to non-commercial operations with satellite-delivered Contemporary Christian music formats. Check them out http://www.emfbroadcasting.com.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of KBAC's format and personnel migrate to either 101.5 or 102.9......

I hadn't thought much about those two stations, but it does make sense you could see KBAC find its way to one of those sticks. Another possibility, if they hurry up in getting it on-air, is KLVF 100.7, which has a CP to move into Santa Fe by way of Pecos. I can't imagine it still running ABC's AC format after it moves.
