Santos Expanding to South Coast?

This morning, while flipping through the AM dial, I caught a little of Jeff Santos, and...in passing...he mentioned that in additon to the show being heard on 1590 in New Hampshire, the show was now being heard on 1320 in Providence.

However, when flipping over to 1320 (to verify his claim)...WARL was still running its usual brokered fare (as opposed to the Santos brokered fare).

Was Santos "jumping the gun" a bit, or was 1320-WARL up to its usual incompetence?

Just wondering...

Maybe he really meant WALE - but he was too embarrassed to say so... ::)

Could you have missed his start date on 1320? A logical date--if such a thing applies in this case--would be May 31 or June 1.

I note that Santos has been telling New Hampshire listeners in Manchester and Concord to tune to 1590. Either Santos doesn't know or has chosen to ignore that 1590 is operating under STA with 200W days (and much less than that at night). 200W on 1590 may cover Nashua--sort of--but it doesn't go very far under the best of circumstances. In the rocky soil of the Granite State, that goes at least double (err, goes at most half that far--maybe less). Now, a couple of weeks ago, the FCC did accept for filing WSMN's application to build something similar to its old 5 kW-U three-tower DA setup on a new site approximately four miles west-southwest of the former location. If that application is approved and the NIMBY's in the station's proposed new backyard don't make too much of a fuss, the new facilities might justify the claim of a signal that can be heard in Manchester and Concord (by day, anyhow). But nobody should hold his or her breath unless he or she really believes that a blue complexion will look flattering.

Dan:

Apparently, Santos DID "jump the gun"....but only by one day. The rest of this week (starting today)...amounts to something of a "soft-start" for Santos, in which he gets carried "in-progress"....following previously scheduled brokered fare on Providence rimshotter 1320-WARL. The "official" start is actually Monday, May 31.

Mystery Solved......Case Closed......

WARL was doing Sporting News Radio before, I think but their site does show them as brokered
( http://www.1320warlradio.com/ ) and Santos' is brokered too of course.

btw Clear Channel is putting more money and effort into WXKS 1200 than they did the 1430/1200 combo of
progtalk. Must be ratings time as they have a contest called "Win $50,000 of Rush Limbaugh's Money". I note
they _didn't_ do a contest in 04-06 called "Win $50,000 of Al Franken's Money". CC has put more promo
effort, a bigger signal, and a daily local host (Jeff Katz) into Rush Radio, three things I noted back then
which they didn't do with Boston's Prog Talk. (Santos has injected himself as a daily local show into his
brokered talk buy, done some promotion, and WWZN can be good in some areas plus he's trying to expand
at least.) Ratings for 1200 have improved--they are still not on the level of
WRKO, WBZ, or WTKK, but it's considerably higher than before after a couple months, and now with later
sunsets the signal can do better.

Since Limbaugh is a CCU national property and CCU has put the Rush Radio brand on more than a few of its stations that carry Limbaugh, this is almost certainly a CCU national contest. I'm not sure what you have to listen for to find out that that's the case, but CCU has a LONG track record of staging national contests and dressing them up to sound as if they were local. Hasn't the FCC had them on the carpet on several occasions for failing to make clear that various contests were being aired in multiple markets simultaneously and that the chances of winning were less than most listeners would probably realize?

Could well be; wasn't aware of CCU's reputation for this but I think some CBS contests (Oldies 103) had to divulge that it was involving people in more than just the Boston market, IIRC.

WODS is not "Oldies 103.3" anymore. They completely dumped the "O" word last fall.

Ah, I forgot! Force of habit...

btw is anyone home at radio-locator? I contacted them a few times pointing out that WXKS (AM) was now Rush Radio 1200 but they still list them as Spanish* with a website link pointing to 1430. Some other changes I think I pointed out, like WTWK going from Eve 1070 to Bloomburg Radio, also got no changes (and it was awhile ago)

*--It does list the WXKS calls as being on 1200 but still says Spanish/link to Mia site--which is using
http://rumba1200am.com/main.html as a redirector

It's okay, you get benefit of the doubt - WODS is not necessarily in your demo, is it? ;)
