They were off Monday with some kind of apology read by management about a statement Vinnie made. Doesn't this sound like an old stunt?

Well, it's happened at least once that I can recall, but it wasn't a stunt. In the early 90s, KFRC (99.7) was getting good ratings with Gary Bryan and J. Paul Emerson in mornings. Emerson was a Michael Savage type, and said a lot of offensive things. Most of them passed unnoticed, but he was eventually fired for making one too many homophobic remarks.
I don't recall this was before or after CBS ended up with owning KFRC by acquiring Infinity.
