Sarandis never part of Ordway/Wolfe clique

Always found Ted Sarandis to be a breath of fresh air on WEEI.
Ted brought a level of professionalism and class to 'EEI that is sorely lacking on their other shows.
Ted was a really nice change of pace from the Jr high school locker room mentality we get with their morning and afternoon drive time shows.
But it was very evident that Ted was never part of the Ordway/Wolfe clique that controls WEEI.
How else to explain Jon Meterparel being promoted to BC's football announcer.
The guy is downright AWFUL but he's part of the clique so he gets the gig.

Best of Luck to Ted Sarandis.
He will be missed.

While Ted Sarandis has extensive experience calling basketball, I don't know if he's ever done play-by-play of football.

While many play-by-play announcers do a large number of sports, others specialize in only one or two. For quite a few years (but not recently), I did play-by-play of local high-school hockey for the local cable-access channel in my hometown. Only one other time did I ever do play-by-play of any other sport: I was once assigned to call a high-school soccer game (the only one that year on this particular cable access channel). The person running the access channel, in assigning me the game, said that the tempo of soccer was much like hockey and I would be able to do a good job calling the soccer game for that reason. He also gave me a "homework asignment": Getting up early on a Saturday morning the weekend before my soccer game was to be played in order to watch a live British Premiership soccer game on NESN, so I could study the style of the British commentators.

With that one exception, all of my play-by-play work was in hockey.

It was the policy of that local cable-access channel to have a different announcer doing play-by-play of each sport the channel covered, so each announcer could concentrate on and specialize in the sport he was covering. Many other cable-access channels have one person do all their local play-by-play sports coverage.

True, he wasn't part of the clique--he was "serious" and not irreverent like the other hosts. Which could be good, or bad.

Someone on another board mentioned Ted bringing up conservative politics and they wondered why most sports talk show hosts tend to be on the Right.

I don't know, but I'm picturing liberal sports talk radio:

--Why the Cleveland Indians should change their name/logo

--Why it's so unfair that one team has to win. Let's not keep score.
(Don't laugh--this is being done in some schools.)

--Why the government should be in every facet of our lives--but taxpayer funded
stadiums? NO WAY! :)

BACK to talking about Ted: You want a big contrast?
Stay tuned at
midnight for something completely different: J.T. The Brick, where he encourages
listeners to be passionate (AND YELL A LOT) and "live and die for their teams".
No sedate talk here, "are you frickin' kidding me?," as JT would say.

I used to wonder why Ted never let kids or teens call in--he'd notice
a listener who somehow got through his call screener that sounded like
he's 17 or 18 or
even younger, and then he'd rudely tell the kid to call back in about
10 or 15 years.
Later I found out that WEEI's policy is apparently to not allow people
under a certain age on. Now, who's to say that some kid that age might
actually have something interesting to say, and might be a big sports
buff? Sure, WEEI has their policy, but Ted could have just said,
"Excuse me, but how old are you...16? We have a policy that you have
to be at least 20 to call. Sorry about that" Maybe Ted really said
something like that on occasion and I missed it,
but during those times he cut off these callers he sounded like an old
sourpuss. Sure,
"them's the rules", but at least SAY so on the air, Ted...<P ID="signature">______________
