WWPR moved off the Bradenton pier a year or so ago. They use the former WBRD Samoset site now. They just got permission to go to 800 watts from the 500 they were authorized when they moved. Rules to protect 1500 in Tarpon Springs wont let them go back to 1 Kilowatt any more. I dont think they are moving again. 1490 and 1280 in Sarasota appear to have common management under an LMA agreements. Maybe the two are combining studios to save money.
Yep, we've been added solely on merit. Though WWPR has not been airing us like they said they would. I need to talk to Val Silver.
In regards to Tampa Bay, there are a couple of irons in the fire. I can't really hint too much, but Tom Martino is going away, and one station is looking at us pretty hard. Also there's going to be an FM flipping to talk on the West coast somewhere, and we have very good odds of being on it when that happens.
No, I don't buy time. We used to back prior to syndication. A brief history:
WSRQ FM 105.9 11/02-04/03 - Not buying time
WTMY AM 1280 08/03-05/04 - Buying time
WIBQ AM 1220 06/04-11/04 - Not buying time
After that, full time syndication from my home studio, not buying time.
1490 WWPR is using the transmitter site and the old 120' back up tower for WBRD off the 2100 blk of 26 Avenue East, by Mixon's Groves... Their studios are in a small strip mall / office park off the 6000 block of Cortez Road West...
I heard that Valerie's brother got the LMA for WWPR... She remains the GM for 1280 WTMY...but does seem to do a lot of work @ WWPR...
WTMY and WWPR are no longer commonly LMAed, and were never, at least AFAIK, owned by the same licensee
As to Ian getting away with constant pimping of his show on this board, I don't understand. 15 affiliates with 500-watt transmitters in cow pastures isn't saying much...
Constant pimping? This thread is the first one I've created in this subforum, and I think it's relevant. We did get a front page article in the paper, after all.
Oh, and I wouldn't call Indianapolis a cow pasture. How many affiliates could you recruit in 18 months of syndication?
Just to clarify... I never meant to imply that WTMY & WWPR were LMA'd together... Just that Val's brother had the LMA for WWPR, and that she was, at the time, the GM of WTMY...even though she was spending a lot of time @ WWPR...
Metropolitan owns WTMY and WBRD AM 1420 which IS LMA'd to The Happy Gospel Group in Oneco... of SR 70...
later...
