Sarasota Radio

Sarasota's 1450 WSRQ - home of the jerry springer and sean hannity shows - is going away as of september 18. Clear channel sarasota management has decided to simulcast WDDV 92.1 on the am outlet.

WDDV is on 1320 and plays standards. Transmitter is in Venice on Auburn Road. Has almost zilch signal into Sarasota/Bradenton at nite. So simulcast is probably not a bad idea. It allows CC to reduce staff some more. WSRQ is an almost clone of WFLA anyway. On the other hand there goes the only locally staffed news talk station in Sarasota/Manatee unless you count that flea power 1220.

Wow.. what's your source, MusicMan11?

Totally makes sense. All you have to do is look at the Spring numbers. And just to clarify what was being stated above... it's AM 1320 that will be simulcast on AM 1450. 92.1 has nothing to do with this. I would like to know if this is confirmed as well.

Sources? Who needs any stinkin' sources around here? (See "Sportsradio 1010" threads.)

All of the Sarasota AM signals except 930 are inadequate. 930 gets hammered at night from a CC owned station in Jacksonville. 1320 gets hammered by the Salem station in Jacksonville. Most of the AM's in Sarasota County should just go away.

Someone behind the scenes at 1220 gets hammered virtually every afternoon while at work. Won't be long before the current owners run out of money for their hobby.

The 1320 1450 simulcast makes more sense. Though I would have flipped it to both stations as NewsTalk instead of music.

CC's real screwup was flipping 92.1 away from standards in the first place. WDUV's signal doesnt get much past Manatee County. It doesnt have anything special anymore and the ratings have plumetted since the flip. What they could also do is provide a real oldies station again. Oldies 108 has skewed to mostly 70's. There is a market for late fifties and early sixties that is not being filled.

Agreed. Flipping 92.1 from "The Dove" to "Lite FM" was stupid. Sarasota/Bradenton already had its own AC station 10 years earlier (Anyone remember WISP 98.7?) and it was a ratings disaster. Why did CC think it would be different this time around?
