Sat night mix shows

I won't ask who has the best mix show. But what's the mix show you tune into the most on terrestial or online? I'm a big fan of sat night mix shows due to the fact that it was the only way I was able to listen to club music back in the days. That's Before the days of the internet, satellite and all the ways we're able to get music now. Believe it or not there was time where if one wasn't old enough to get into a club, you would listen to a station's sat night mix show lol.

I think WFLZ Tampa has a great mix show, and of course B-96 Chicago has a really awesome eloectro-house mixshow that goes to 5 or 6 AM,, But their are so any stations with good mixshows, it impossible to mention them all.

True, and it depends on your taste too. I used to be a huge fan of WFLZ but now that we have our own mix show in Orlando,XL 106.7 (Club XL) that's all I listen to. It's heavy on the breakbeat and breakbeat remixes but that's what the people like down here.

Which leads to this thought. It's good to be popular but who cares if the rest of this country is clueless as to what I like. It doesn't make me like it any lesser.

I have something I've recently started looking forward to on Friday nights in Phoenix, but... since we're talking about Sat. nights, I'll just keep it on the topic of Sat night; In regard to things that relate to dance in some way, here are the following mix shows I desire:

First, I'll say KKFR does an acceptable job at utilizing some electronic material, even though it's mostly just remixes of rhythmic hits. They tend to play the originals of already fast tempo songs at times, but I like when they use certain remixes that are very heavy in electronic instrumentation and sounds. I don't mind baltimore club music, and I like the new bass remixes. I wouldn't say that Sat night is more exciting than Fri (or vice versa) since they pretty much do the same thing both nights, now that the actual electro hip hop and house show is gone.

KZON, well.. they pretty much keep a great balance between slower and faster hits, while sometimes getting a bit housey with the baltimore club stuff and a few dance remixes certain dj's would throw in from time to time. Sat nights are good, but I normally don't tune in to KZON until all the other stations are done mixing on Sat nights, since not only do I already know what to expect from KZON for the most part, but they go until 3am, while everyone else stops at 12 or 1am. However, I DO listen to KZON on Friday nights, NOW...

KMVA still does some pretty good uptempo mixes on Sat nights, with a good mixture of house, booty bass, freestyle, old school, new school...etc along with the regular rhythmic pop stuff. Sat. nights are their best feature - well at least in my opinion. You can catch Jocelyn Enriquez and Planet & Soul in their Sat night mix sometimes.

KZZP gets very housey very quick on Sat nights, but despite the fact there was a time I desperately wished for this to happen on that station, sometimes I don't like how they mix and mash the songs. They'd have a nice electro-house - pure dance vibe going for a while, then suddenly mess it up with the original version of "do you remember" by Jay Sean or "disturbia" by Rihanna, or worse, "TIK TOK" sped up! It also doesn't help when they do that Gucci Mane ft usher song that Gucci Mane messed up with his half-assed rapping skills that KE$HA would've been better off filling in instead. But other than that, Kiss FM is sounding GREAT!

KVIB ...not really sure what they do, but I know they do something. That pretty much wraps this one up.

KAJM does have some decent old school disco, house, funk, booty bass, and freestyle mixes on Saturday nights, playing certain things that no one else would play, in such a fashion that other stations would probably not be able to duplicate. There seems to be a higher level of mixshow organization there. Unlike KMVA, you will not hear the same songs in separate mix sets play twice within 20 minutes. This tends to happen a lot on KMVA, because they have two mixes play back to back with some of the same songs in both mixes. If you like the old school, it will be found on KAJM.

I think that pretty much covers all stations that do something related to dance on Sat. nights in my neck of the woods.

I won't say which ones in America are my favorites because I have quite a few but when it comes to overseas there are only two that I download into my iPod weekly. Those both come from Radio 538. One is Dance Department and the other is Powermix. Now if DJs from Mars would do a weekly mix I'd be very happy.

BTW, forget about what I said about Friday's being exciting. There was one song I kept hearing that made me think there was hope, but then I found out it was Kelis. Yes, I'm glad that Kelis is doing house tracks, but to hear Kelis on a rhythmic top 40 station - not really something to be excited about. It's not like I was hearing Plumb, Tiesto, or Jenna Drey!

I would have to agree on that show, Thx! 8)

I have some of their tracks.....very sick beats!

They put out a 60 minute mix on their Facebook page that's very cool. You can also hear it on their Soundcloud page.

If it was Friday nights, I would've also said WiLD 94.9 in SF, Club 949 and Clubber's Commute is pretty house-friendly, especially WiLD 94.9 Afterhours.

But since we're in the discussion of Saturday night mixshows, I would say Kiss 108 Boston does have a pretty good mixshow, and our nearby 99.1 KGGI in Riverside also has a house/dance mixshow from 12-2am, its pretty awesome. Also check out "Planet Q" on Q102 Philly from 2-4am and "Saturday Night Rush" on Channel 9-5-5 Detroit from 3-4am, both are house-friendly shows.

What I don't like about our CHRs in LA is that they don't play house tracks on their mixshows - KIIS-FM in LA plays mostly hip-hop or other weird sounding music on their "Club DV8" mixshow, they don't even play remixes of the tracks they play, and 97.1 AMP Radio doesn't play any mixes. Though, I'm happy our local "Latino 96.3" is somewhat house friendly though. I hope if AMP Radio decides to do mixshows, they are more house-friendly and don't sound as dull like KIIS-FM mixes.

I would say as far as indiana goes WAZY Z-96.5 has the best mixshow,, they have Indiana Resident DJ Sticky Boots in the mix on Friday nights with all dance till 5 AM, and Sat night they have Club Z which is also an all nighter,, If you dont mind a 50/50 mix of dance and hip hop Radio Now 100.9 indianapolis has DJ Orion throwing down some sick beats on the Friday Vibe and the saturday vibe.

I thought Power 106 plays dance in their mixshows

I don't recall them playing dance... unless I never knew they did... I don't listen to Power that much...

When I was there I recall Power 106 playing Freestyle and house CLASSIC Dance in their noon mixshow with the Aquanet Set, but that has been years ago.. i think Club Kiss on KIIS sprinkles in some dance pop between the rhythmic hits as well. Also KGGI in the IE plays some dance in their mixshows and has a good signal in most in LA unless you are near a mountain that blocks them out. I dont think AMP 97.1 plays dance as of yet,, correct me if wrong.

KC101 and Kiss 95.7 in Connecticut have great mixshows, Kiss leans more towards house, KC101 is a Pulse87-like mixshow.
