"Satellite And HD Radio -- Perfect Together"

AND, one monthly fee shared by all. HD radio will finally have some revenue.
I guess HD early adopters might be locked out, then. (That ability is in the HD spec.). Perhaps they will offer trade ins for old HD radios?

There will NEVER be a monthly fee for HD. That's silly.

And I don't think it's an either/or situation as regards satellite/internet/wimax/hd. Let all flowers bloom!

Satellite has failed to capture more than a single-digit share of the radio market after SIX YEARS! What a threat! I love XM (and am a longtime subscriber), but they've never made a freakin' cent. I'm SO glad I didn't invest in this turkey!

Meantime stocks of REAL VALUE keep hitting new highs. Satellite radio: listen to it, DON'T INVEST!

Charging a subscription fee for HD channels has already been demo'ed, so you can bet, that is going to happen. But you know, I think Jerry is correct, let's combine XM, Sirius, and HD Radio into one receiver, then watch all three converge at the bottom:

It's less receivers, that would have to be recycled ! :D

Well duh! If I were going to build a new digital transmission system, I'd build in subscription capability. But not for consumers! You're WAY missing the big picture. The market for that type of service is BACKGROUND MUSIC for offices and restaurants, reading services for the blind, and other specialized niche markets...things SCA has been used for in the past. NOT general consumer use.

OF COURSE YOU BUILD IN SUBSCRIPTION CAPABILITY, but I predict it will NEVER be in a consumer radio. Duh! Radio stations for more than a half-century have offered more than their main-channel programming (usually via SCA). This just takes that capability into the digital age!
