Satellite programming Obsolete ?

Thoughts: With the exception of talk shows & some specialty programming, is full service satellite programming obsolete? With computer technology & voicetracking, you can make your station sound good. No three minute windows to fill, no sunfade, no satellite dish, and no issues with misfired liners.

Of course the advantages, no music to program, a regular voice, and no format to create.

I still hear many small markets with wrong liners, and dead fill windows, or joining a song 30 second after the feed returns.
 
I agree that there are too many problems with satellite programming, especially in small markets where a station might not be able to afford the manpower and all the right bells and whistles necessary to make a generic satellite feed sound good.

I would much rather build a format myself, use voicetracking and FTP-delivered shows, and keep more of the inventory while having complete control over the music and even the content. If you don't like something John Tesh says, don't air that segment. When it's live over satellite, you can't control much.

So I wouldn't say satellite programming is obsolete, but stations these days have a lot more options as technology improves. Plus I still can't believe radio stations need to buy satellite equipment that costs thousands of dollars to receive programming, when regular consumers can get Sirius / XM with an antenna the size of your thumb.
