I wonder if satellite radio will ever become so huge that it will wipe out commercial radio? It would be great to have a station like that in Providence. Free satellite radio for all formats,- talk, sports, music...I better wake up now..

>What I do see for the future of Satelite radio is for them to carry local stations like what Directv and Dish do now for television.Although it would probably start in the bigger markets NY,LA,Chicago and eventualy in 5 or 6 years markets the size of Providence. The technoligy is definiatly there.

At this point I think the point of sat radio is to NOT listen to the locals. Unless you have personalities who have enough of a widespread fan base to keep people listening at least in the morning, look at what's available. You can actually go online before you leave the house in the morning & get what you need to know. If local traffic reports get incorporated in SAT radio, which I think is happening in some markets, you'd better get some addictive people on terrestrial. Right now though I think freedom of choice with the music and Howard are the main selling points. The long term future of radio is bleak because today's kids are so plugged into everything from the internet, Ipods, MP3 players, sat radio, expaning functions of cell phones, and whatever comes next that they could care less about radio. I'm actually surprised some younger people even want to get into the business.
