Satellite vs Memphis Radio

13 million huh?! wow, pardon me for saying so, but thats awful!

You should try looking up old projection scales for Sirius and XM about 5 years ago when they signed on. By 2007, they were suppose to double that number they are at now. But as long as you guys keep paying your $10 a month, I'm sure they won't go under.

And I'll keep my FM100 subscription going, thank you ;)

its not worth what you are paying for it ;D. you couldnt pay me to listen to it ;D and yes i have heard it.

I concur, I'll keep my free terrestrial subscription going myself. ;)

figures. especially since you are in that business yourself. under your name it says you are an on air personality. as i said before. the only people that dont like sat radio are the people IN terestial radio playing the same 20 songs over and over again.

See, I'm in the business as well and the only reason I listen to Sirius is because I can do so for free (well sort of free. I renewed my dad's subscription for another year this past Christmas 'cause he loves listening to Howard Stern, so I listen online via his subcription). If I had to pay for Satelitte Radio I would be dissapointed. I can find the same stuff on FREE radio, and if not, I can find it in my CD collection.

Doesn't matter, in 10 years cars will be driving themselves (flying even!) so we will be able to watch TV while in the vehicle...then we're all F-Bombed.

Viva La Internet Radio!!!! ...wait.

Internet Radio. It's like broadcasting to yourself! Only with less listeners.

i have never heard a.n.i.m.a.l, deicide, cannibal corpse, death or morbid angel on terestial radio.
i have never heard sunny sweeny, heather miles or buddy miller on terestial radio.
and since 1990 i have not heard wasp, krokus, grim reaper, dokken or helix on the radio..

i guess if you only listen to top 40 that statement could be true. but not if you listen to metal, alt-country (in most markets), or album rock. which is most of what i listen to . outside of classic ccm. also not on fm radio.

I hear all kinds of songs i had completely forgotten about on sat. radio.. But when you go so many years listening to the same 20 songs it happens.. Not to mention all the good talk radio and the comedy channels. I can't beleive anyone that has heard it, could dislike it unless there in the buisness and scared its going to get there job.

preach it brother ;D

If you had a room full of radio professionals in one room, I seriously doubt any of them would say that they're scared of being put out of work because of sat. radio...We've got MUCH bigger threats on our hands right now (ie-corporate downsizing, mergers, voicetracking, etc.). Plus sat. it still not that high and mighty yet, even quarterly reports (like the loss reported by XM yesterday) show that they aren't as GRAND as you guys are making it out to seem.. One reason being that it's not readily accessible/ affordable for everyone at this point in time..You know people in the county are on welfare, fixed incomes, or just plain earning low/minimum wages..right? I'm sure getting a sat. radio is number one on their "must have" list. I am thrilled that you and many others enjoy the new found tech. and look forward to seeing where it goes down the line. In the meantime, your complaints about radio isn't anything new- we've all heard it often, hopefully all stations will continue to make progress and protect their cume. Everything else is irrelevant :)

i dont think its grand. but i do think its really good for those of us who can afford it. i was in my truck today for about 4 hours. i listned to outlaw country sirius 63 the whole time. no repeats. and a very wide playlist. locally we have nothing like it. we only have corporate tight formats. new (pop) country, classic rock and ac..zzzzzzzzzzzz!!

The list of threats to terestrial jobs grows. Sat radio, Internet, cell phones, the above mentioned, and the biggest of Trojan Horses...i-pods. I can't beleive when I hear terestrial local jocks doing car remotes bragging about how this or that car has leather seats and an i-pod hook-up. Blasphemy! We'll know the end is near when some luxury auto maker starts selling cars with sat, internet, and i-pod (mp3) and NO TERESTRIAL RADIO! It's coming folks.

I'm not so sure ipods are the end of the world as we know it. The most requested accessory on an ipod/mp3 player? A RADIO. ;D

I-pods are just a phase, both of my daughters got hooked on thier I-Pods about a year ago and they wouldn't go anywhere without them. Now I hear them listening to radio stations in thier room. why?

Because your average consumer (young or old) is lazy! How many times have you changed your playlist because you got sick of the same songs over and over? or do you still have those same songs in your playlist and you just flick on the radio now and again? ;D The point is...Radio is a simple, accessible solution. You will die before terrestrial radio dies.

Makes some of us want to drop to our knees in thanks to a merciful god.

To be frank, I will take satellite radio over Memphis radio anyday of the week. I am a fan of classic rock, but my true passion lies in 80's rock and no Memphis station covers that for me. I like listening to a station that plays deep album cuts and 80's bands like the Boneyard. I used to listen to 103 and 98.1 but both have ran me off.
