Yup, I know you're not either of the Cranky Yankees, just mentioning the name being used by
two others--and in the case of the WEEI caller, she doesn't call herself that but the station
decided to use the name (Art is right).
The "hickory dickory dock" recitation sounds like Andrew Dice Clay doing a joke.
Yes, regarding Vt. Yankee. The $20 one helps me at work to hear Howie's final hour (and
back when Sox were on RKO, to hear Sox games) and no doubt you do get what you pay for
and the C. Crane one overall is better. The $20 one is probably used a lot in cars to
rebroadcast mp3 players.
Speaking of WEEI, I was reading in wikipedia about what "might have been": They went on
as Mike FM on 4/14/05. If they didn't we could have had one of the CBS stations changing
to Jack (and as I've mentioned before what if Ent. decided to make 93.7 a WEEI simulcast
then?)
>>On April 14, 2005, WQSX became WMKK, with an adult hits format branded as "93.7 Mike FM". Inside Radio, a radio industry publication, released information that had this change not taken place, Infinity Broadcasting ... reportedly would have transformed either WBMX, WZLX, or even WODS into Jack FM on April 15.

Then there's a link to a Globe article from Sept 12, 2009 saying that ESPN was "in discussions to air some of its national programming on WEEI-AM 850 during nights and weekends, with WEEI intending to move to an FM station within months... ESPN Radio would then take over the 850 spot on the dial. "

As it turned out, while WEEI did pick up some ESPN programming it never came to the point
where 850 was ESPN all the time. And yes, WEEI did move to "an FM station" within months:
24 months, to be exact...and ironically enough WEEI's FM debut at 93.7 was on 9/12/11,
exactly 2 yrs to the day after that Globe article.
