Saturday Morning TV

So much for weekday programming. What are the networks' plans for kids' cartoons and other programming? Does ABC plan on adding another hour to GMA Saturday? I also understand most of the 'toons have went to cable anyway. TV is changing so much everyday. Maybe all the nets will scale back and go 3 hours per week with the E/I rule.

Eventually that's what will happen...they'll only carry what's required by the FCC, and it'll be stuff rehashed from their cable partners (CBS-Nick, ABC-Disney, NBC-Discovery).

Saturday Morning TV is terrible.

I miss Bugs Bunny/Road Runner, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, Weekend Special, and all the other classics I grew up on. Even re-runs of The Smurfs would be a positive step. Some of that QUBO stuff is atrocious.

My own children watch the CBS rehash of Nick Jr. and DIC programming, or switch to PBS and watch the week's worth of DragonTales and Curious George. Does anyone else dislike the fact that Cartoon Network and Toon Disney are so Japanimated now? I just don't care for the anime, and it's every freaking where!

Yes, it is.

Amen. Once again, I defer to the always astute Mystery Science Theater 3000. In an episode, a young boy is watching anime on television. Mike sums things up brilliantly...

"Why, here's something else Satan created...Japanimation!"

Well, CW's Kid's WB comes close to what was traditional, and it seems to do well. They tap into Cartoon Network's library and since they also own what was Hanna Barbara, they pretty much have variations of all the familiar names, such as Loonatics Unleased, Legion of Justice, Scooby Doo, Batman, etc. So it's not all bad...

Of course you can't beat the classics!

I miss the old days of Saturday Mornings on WGBH back when they used to show 3 episdoes of Sesame Street, back-to-back. They would rerun the episodes that ran earlier in the week.
