Saturday Night Live: One year after a Facebook campaign......

....brought Betty White to SNL to host the Mother's Day edition (along with a crowd of former female castmembers), former writer Tina Fey was back to host last night's edition.

Tina is 6 months pregnant, apparently has a new book, and stars in NBC's "86th ranked show" 30 Rock. Yes, she did portray Sarah Palin in a sketch about the possible 2012 presidential nominees.

She brought along former castmember Maya Rudolph who is also very very (very very very....) pregnant. Maya joined Tina for a Mother's Day/preggers song during the opening monologue and also appeared in a couple of sketches including a very funny one about a birthing class. http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/birthing-class/1325825/

Former castmember Darrell Hammond was also back, portraying Donald Trump in that same presidential nominee sketch. Not all that funny. He must have dropped by the studio to say hello and got thrown in there. ::)

Bill Hader's "Stefon the around the town culture guy" character may have been the funniest all night. He is one of Weekend Updates characters. The whispering "Osama bin Laden's friends" characters on Weekend Update was about the worst. Fred Armisen, playing one of those unfunny characters, also portrays Garth in the very unfunny and annoying "Garth and Cat" (with Kristin Wiig) Update sketches.

saturday night live will never top the first five years(original cast seasons) of thr show.

I agree. I stopped watching "Live from New York, Its Saturday Night" way back in 1980. Since then I may have seen a few sketches from the 90s, but never an entire episode. I just didn't find the replacements entertaining or talented. Its targeted to an entirely new generation with an incomprehensible sense of humor. I don't understand how that show has stayed on the air for so long. Perhaps because there is nothing else on TV, OTA-cable-sat, on a Saturday night, especially since Zena: PMS Warrior, American Gladiators and Elvira were cancelled!

Maya Rudolph seems to be (very, very, very....) pregnant every time I see her in something. Wasn't that her (real) condition in Grown Ups?

IMHO, SNL was a high school production that had a very brief half life long, long ago. To be sure there are current isolated sketches that are as good, if not better, than some of the originals but the show as a whole is embarrassing to watch.

I agree... Every 10 minutes i see her on tv and in the movies. ???

The question people should be asking is the show's future once Lorne Michaels wants to finally call it quits (if he ever wants to do so?)....you know NBC has learned from the 80-81 and 85-86 transitions. One must wonder whether when and if that moment ever happens, whether NBC will keep the show afloat, or finally do what Al Franken was asking viewers to request 30 years ago and put SNL to sleep?

Let's see, who will leave NBC first: Lorne Michaels or Dick Ebersol?
